Seki City quality control problem... *problem fixed*

I have seen more flaws from Golden, then Seki.

Given the extremely small sample sizes we're dealing with here, it's very much expected that people will have conflicting experiences regarding which factory has "better QC." It would be interesting to know the level of flaws you mean and whether or not the knives were bad enough (in your estimation) to be exchanged.

I have a Native with a swage that is way off....but it is a user, so no biggie. My Yojimbo 2 has very obvious grind marks near the choil which I had mentioned here before....at the time, they were impossible to get so I became fine with it. I have many more Golden made ones that are flawless.

None of my Seki, or Taiwan blades have any issues.

BTW, these things happen and imho in no way diminish the quality of Spyderco knives.....

Why don't you try ordering from a real dealer instead. Ask them to give a look at for flaws before they ship it to you.

Hey Dude do you have a website to recommend for ordering knives in canada? Amazon is always my first choice because they're cheaper and shipping is free and pretty fast. also i don't really like paypal. The hobby is tough up here.

Go with warriors and wonders in vancouver, I have only purchased from them in person but it seems like people have had good experiences ordering online from them as well...

Its funny you think that your opinion matters to me.

You know you could have just admitted that you made a mistake. I have a feeling that might have been a more productive course of action than the one you now find yourself on. Nobody is trying to fight you. Why don't you just let this die?

It wasn't a mistake. The fact is, its a term many people don't like. An abbreviation when a derogatory term.. doesn't make it OK. I just raised the point cause some people don't know. Then the rest of the brigade hopped in. Maybe you should admit you were wrong. I was trying to educate a bit, cause its a stupid term that doesn't need to be used.

Gotcha. Well...carry on then. Best of luck to you. :)

I bought a salt and the only thing I noticed was the edges of the spyder hole are pretty sharp and dug into my thumbnail when I flicked it open. Is this how all these come? NBD not hard to fix.

Sal has stated that they like "crisp" edges on their knives. The corners of some of my spydies can def shave a layer of thumbnail off, but also give you some added grip when opening. Far from being a defect, this reveals a very high level of manufacturing precision. What's nice about it, as you mentioned, it's no big deal to break those edges off with a little sandpaper if you don't prefer it that way. It would be impossible to go the other way, though.

As a (probably unnecessary) anecdote, when I was a young engineer, I received a part from a machine shop that had been "jitterbugged" (which is sanded with one of those vibrating sanders). I mentioned to one of the senior engineers that I was impressed the machine shop took that extra step to improve the finish of the part. He just shook his head and told me that the jitterbug finish merely indicated that they didn't do the best job machining it in the first place, and wanted to hide the poor finish. He showed me a part that had not needed such a step, and the crisp edges of this part were reminiscent of those on spyderco knives. I think of this sometimes when I handle my particularly crisp spydies.

I find the crisp edge on a Spyderhole is an advantage when opening. I don't have the need to power flick the knife open at all, but a slow and controlled method works best for me. Over time it mellows out with use. I remember seeing a knife where the hole was such a both to the owner, he ended up sanding it down to the point where his finder would not longer acquire any traction and it basically became a 2 handed knife.

My Tuff came pretty sharp and kind of hurt my thumb and even cut it once. To fix it I just took the spyderco brown triangle stone and sort of rotated it in the hole a few rotations and it is pretty much perfect now. Crisp yet not too sharp as to hurt.

I'm happy to report that after some power wash with hot water and soap the backlock bar now locks up flush with the handle when the blade is open. Apparently the Seki factory left alot of gunk in the action which caused problems.

This makes me wonder, what is all this crud and junk and why are they in the action of Japanese G10 knives? Why cant they use some normal lube and call it a day.

A lot (or maybe all) of the Case knives I own, as well as some older Camillus knives, which are all US-made, have had gunk in the pivot points when new.

The 2 that I own are from the initial first run and both of them are opened easier with the fuller. That knife is an exception rather than the rule though I think.

I didn't much mind really, better to dull it down a bit on my own that try and get it sharper. I'm not sure what run mine is from but I got it in Dec 2012. It gets the most pocket time out of all of mine.

Glad you got it sorted. Enjoy the new knife. :)
