If we vote for a color called Hemlock Green, and then get a green knife, then what? Just sayin! 😁

The dye job could literally come out any crazy way and we would just have to take it.

We know what Sepia looks like tho...

And did we lose 100 voters from the last poll? Who knew Brown was such a deal breaker?!

It's a fascinating dilemma - are we seeing only what we want to see?

This does not look red to me - how about you all? Top pic is mine, bottom one is from a vendor that I do not recall.

Well, I have taken the Munsell color test and passed at the superior level for work. What I see is a black knife with color on the corners in the red-orange spectrum. But yuk science.

Edit. Most browns live in the red orange spectrum btw.

These antique yellow 15s look a lot like the jigged Hemlock I’m seeing. Everybody should take a deep breath and vote for what they want and be happy with what is finally constructed. We will never know how the final knife looks until it is done…whatever wins will look good!0A132038-788E-4E01-95BA-3BE2DB9FA499.jpeg

I think Hemlock is going to be darker, Copperhead is going to be lighter. Beyond that it’s hard to say for certain.

Copperhead (which could be orangey, yellowish, or tan depending on the luck of the day… not a terribly consistent color or naming over the years) is more of a known quantity, in that we have pics we can reasonably say “it’ll look something like this.” Hemlock is an unknown in sawcut …but I’d submit that the color (in jigged bone) is more consistent.

Both can be perceived as reddish. I like Hemlock because it will be attractive, I have no doubt. It also fits the gravitas of the pattern well, and it will be unique. The copperhead (or equivalent) has been used for a number of barlows over the years (yes I know you can’t buy one readily, but they are out there) and many other GECs. It’s one of the most common dye schemes (medium brown with orangey yellows at the bolster.) I’m ready for something different and new!

Here’s a little something to chew on for anyone who really thinks Charlie’s color blind…
“In terms of the visible spectrum, "brown" refers to long wavelength hues, yellow, orange, or red, in combination with low luminance or saturation.[15] Since brown may cover a wide range of the visible spectrum, composite adjectives are used such as red brown, yellowish brown, dark brown or light brown.” - Wikipedia
And here’s a little experiment from the same location. Notice how brown looks different depending on its surrounding light conditions:

I don't get it. Did you even read the poll description of the one you voted for? Copperhead (has more reddish in it)
I could maybe understand your point if you'd voted Dark Brew or Tan.
Actually yes, read it more than once because I initially voted antique yellow. I dont mind it a reddish BROWN, just not basically black with red showing at the bolsters.

I just figured out why I can’t get behind Hemlock… it looks the same (to my eyes on a screen of course) a Case’s brown deltrin!! It was JOELSM’s picture that finally made it click for me.
