Copperhead is rising fast and it's understandable..... It's a known quantity and there are a ton of examples of it. Even though I don't have the two knives I once owned in Hemlock Green, it wasn't due to the color, but rather the particular pattern itself. One was a 3 bladed 56 Weaver Jack and the other was a 47 Viper.... just didn't quite fit the bill, but put Hemlock Green on a 77 or 78? Never would have left the stable.

Personally, I like taking chances, especially when I have a somewhat educated guess on the result and I'm 99.9% sure Hemlock Green would be amazing on this knife. I do like Copperhead as well, but it's not quite as desireable because like Pàdruig Pàdruig said, it's lost its 'new car' lustre.

Another unknown at this point is "the fancy bolsters are underway".
And I wonder which color would make fancy bolsters pop.
I think Hemlock has great potential to do just that. Fancy Bolster > Some Color > Dark Handle > maybe a touch more color around the end of the knife = Fancy Bolster POPIN'

But Copperhead has not only been done with sawcut plenty of times but also with fancy bolsters.

It basically comes down to do I want something tried and "true" or something unique as forum and club knives sometimes are? ... with some reservations, I'm willing to risk it with Hemlock.
Although honestly, I really don't think BROWN will be the first color I see when looking at a Hemlock cover. Maybe as it ages, but that is another unknown.

I think sawcut Hemlock will be a winner or a total dud with little middle ground.

Someone said maybe sawcut Hemlock hasn't been done before for a reason, and I think maybe there is a bit of truth to that.
After all, if it was "all that" and a cookie too, someone would have already done it maybe.

And as I look at the names of who voted for which color so far, I see a lot of folks whose judgement I respect a great deal ... sticking with tried and "true" Copperhead (and other choices).
So it is that I'm willing to take a risk with Hemlock but certainly don't want to influence other's judgement. I've been wrong before ... and I've never made a pocket knife.

I always thought the #97 Allegheny Pattern was the last on retail shelves before things went stark raving crazy
Besides, there were GEC knives I bought in 2015 that had been on shelves since 2010-2012 and they are some of my favorites

It's usually not the color (except maybe something like glitter gold) that makes a knife sit on the dealer shelves, it's the pattern. I know a lot of you love the stockman, but 3 blade knives aren't exactly the bees knees and the 12 has always been milquetoast. Those Hemlock Green 47's disappeared in a heartbeat because people loved the pattern, the jigging was good and the color was awesome. Hemlock Green has been pretty consistent, colorwise, every time I've seen it.

The Hemlock Green #66s were the last ones sitting on the shelves... for months.

These production totals have likely more to do with it than what might be suggested. There was literally more of them made than the other variants.

I’ve never heard/read anything but positive thoughts on these knives - until now, of course.

You may be right. Im pretty sure the 97 lasted at collectorknives at the end of the “stock era”. I was keeping an eye on the 12s at a couple other dealers and they had some the last time i was on one site but haven't been back in a while. I cant say for certain if and when they all sold.

Wow, those numbers are crazy. I've completely hit the brakes on collecting GEC because the absolute insanity of trying to get one from the dealer and those numbers are a far cry from the old standard of 1of25. I just go for the forum knife these days and regardless of what wins, we are all going to win this year!

Give me Hemlock or give me....errrr copperhead? 🤷🏻‍♂️
Me too...and lets be honest Copperhead is about as brown as Hemlock...ie gold and not especially brown either.
Whilst we're treading the road of retrospectiveness ...I think if sawn Hemlock loses it will be only a matter of time before it gets used on another run... and then we can all go ...we could have had the first of those....

My thoughts exactly on every reason I hope Hemlock wins.

I don't recall them sitting around. I bought a hemlock green 66 right away, and still have it.

Looks like YMMV works for memories, too.
Silly people might think we're making an awful fuss about brown vs brown.
They often say memories are viewed through rose colored glasses… which we all know is a shade of pink.

copperhead is tempting, but ultimately the idea that we could get something truly novel wins me over. Yeah, Bill might be addressing concerns that it comes out too dark, but it doesn’t get much more dark than African Blackwood or ebony and those are well loved.

does anyone have a picture of hemlock next to a black covered knife? It might give us a better idea of how dark it might be.

I voted Hemlock because it looks like a rich and complex color, though I won't know what I'm getting till I have it in hand. Those natural materials may also vary.
