I vote Sarge! If not go big and little combo, ash and NMFSH. Steel hearts just seem to fit the journey.

By the way good luck on the Buff, and if you see a Mamba they make awesome belts... Please kill a mamba.

I too was thinking Sarge..... :D And I don't yet have one.... ;)

Mamba.... yes...well I am sure my girly screams will at least frighten it away..!! ;)

I know how you feel. I once ran into a barbed wire fence trying to get away from a common black snake, which is completely harmless, unless you run into a barbed wire fence and get about 20 cuts and punctures....
I am however shocked that you are not fond of your reptilian neighbors. You come from the land of tiapans, browns and tigersnakes. Mamba are girls next to some of those....

LOL.... well most snakes don't bother me....though I am not fond of them....but it is a "Mamba" we are talking about.... ;) I have actually shovel whacked more venomous snakes in my yard (not where I am living now) but ...well....it is a "Mamba" ..... ;)

Read Hemingway's short story "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber" before you go. Especially if you are bringing a wife/significant other along!

I am familiar with that (Hemingway is a favourite of mine) ... but she is staying home, in fact it was my better 1/2 that organised/planned and paid for the trip... :) I think she is relying on the buffalo to charge and my lack of marksmanship to kick in.... ;)

Andy, knowing that you go camping a lot and since this is a hunting trip with other people I believe you dont have to worry to much about snakes and other dangers. I would however advise to check and make sure the place you are going to hunt has anti venom and know how to use it etc.

Contrary to popular believe you wont be dropped in the middle of nowhere and expected to survive. Speaking from experience and knowing people that cater for overseas hunting costumers your safety and good experience is key for future income.

The Cape Buffalo is one of the smartest animals to hunt and one of the most dangerous. Many people underestimate them and that is why only minimal people are allowed to hunt without a professional guide.

Thanks mate, the most difficult thing for me about going to Africa on a guided hunt is just how comfortable they make it for you, I guess I just have to take the experience for what it is :D I am MUCH more use to things being a little on the "rustic" side... ;) In the 80s I spent a great deal of time hunting Asiatic Buffalo out here, those who I have spoke with who have hunted both tell me the actualy hunting part is much the same but getting the Cape Buffalo on the ground is more difficult, but we wouldn't do it if it were easy....well not me anyway. One of the guides I am looking at has taken lots of Aussies after African game and is more geared to the style of hunting/camp we are good with. I prefer a rough camp and good hunting to anything else... I mean out here it is OK to utilise snakes and other reptiles in practical jokes.... ;)

Enjoy your hunting trip mate , i am also leaving on my 1st hunting trip of this year next week , must be honest i am really looking forward to it as i am sure you too . I am very fortunate that most of my hunts are in South Africa and i usually take quite a few knives with , i just love choice . But if i had to choose one just on functionality i would have to go with the SARGE7 it is a nice all rounder .
