Self Defense Khukuri

If you take off the hand holding a khukhri in a khukhri brawl, then by chance... do you get to keep the khukhri that is in the hand that you took off?. Or, is one khukhuri in the hand, worth two in the... NAAWWW!!!

I don't know why I come up with these things. It must be the cold meds... I get like this when I'm sick :p . It's snowing up here in Spearfish and I'm wearing three layers of clothing here in the studio (no heat). I think my mind is freezing :D

Walosi,
If I had the proper training with a firearm Im not sure what my opinion would be. Someone with your experience with a gun would be absolutley deadly to an intruder. But there is a definite feeling of power that comes with a khukuri.

Not as deadly as the labrador's teeth that an intruder would meet... and the little Cairn's teeth too :D . I think I'd rather be shot!

Randy,
Thanks for the food for thought.

I normally think of situations as weapon vs weapon, and typically think of situations as being as bad as they can get. Here are a few thoughts about fighting and Kuks.

(From what little experience I have of poo hitting the fan, when bad things happen to good people you have been in poo for a long while, digging yourself deeper, and havent just havent realized it. A better attention to the little things is usually needed by people who find themselves there.)

As for Khukris taking limbs, I don't doubt it. You have two defenses if you are unarmed, get outside the swing, or get inside. Entering in requires training, or dumb luck, and outside the swing is a normal reaction (piss yourself and RUN!).

If you have a weapon verus a Khukri, I hope it be a sword, spear or gun. Cause any ole' Bowie probably ain't gonna out reach that Khukri.

As for disarming a person with a knife. Expect to get cut, no exceptions. And if they have a Khukri, I wish you luck, cause it gets intresting trying to enter in and grab the knife wielding hand with that bent blade.

Most knives are straight, you know where the blade is once you grab the opponents hand. Kuks are different, more of a bent short sword/club...depending on the end they can strike you with from your grasp.

Last but not least, guns. I believe what Jeff Cooper said, "Guns are like pianos, everyone can own one, but not everyone can play one." Practice, practice, practice...this espically goes for knives. too! :)

Randy - That was exactly my point. All my training should steer my reflexes the other way, but an instantaneous reaction would be to use the Khukuri.

Al - Amongst the four of us, including Mom with the li'l 640, we can arrange any number or combination of unpleasantness, or, in the words of that great marine, G. Pyle, "Sooprahse, Sooprahse" :D

Okay, I'm behind the conversation. Hope to show you all why today, if I get the picture sent...

Randy,

don't worry about the thread going off topic, I do it all the time too! Besides, I love reading these responses. Here's what I think should go through people's minds:

Good guy: Let's see, on my way home, I pick up Junior, get a loaf of bread, and roses for my wife.

Bad guy: Is this guy going to shoot me, or gut me like a fish? Will I wake up tomorrow? Hmmm.... Maybe it's time to find a different line of work!

But this isn't how the world works, nine times out of ten.

Good guy: It's been a really crappy day at the office, and now this COW won't get the #$%^ out of my lane! Hey $#%^#$! Drop dead!

Bad guy: Oh god, I'm gonna die if I don't get a hit soon. I need money. I just need one more hit, that's all...
