Randy,
Thanks for the food for thought.
I normally think of situations as weapon vs weapon, and typically think of situations as being as bad as they can get. Here are a few thoughts about fighting and Kuks.
(From what little experience I have of poo hitting the fan, when bad things happen to good people you have been in poo for a long while, digging yourself deeper, and havent just havent realized it. A better attention to the little things is usually needed by people who find themselves there.)
As for Khukris taking limbs, I don't doubt it. You have two defenses if you are unarmed, get outside the swing, or get inside. Entering in requires training, or dumb luck, and outside the swing is a normal reaction (piss yourself and RUN!).
If you have a weapon verus a Khukri, I hope it be a sword, spear or gun. Cause any ole' Bowie probably ain't gonna out reach that Khukri.
As for disarming a person with a knife. Expect to get cut, no exceptions. And if they have a Khukri, I wish you luck, cause it gets intresting trying to enter in and grab the knife wielding hand with that bent blade.
Most knives are straight, you know where the blade is once you grab the opponents hand. Kuks are different, more of a bent short sword/club...depending on the end they can strike you with from your grasp.
Last but not least, guns. I believe what Jeff Cooper said, "Guns are like pianos, everyone can own one, but not everyone can play one." Practice, practice, practice...this espically goes for knives. too!
