I got a couple, actually. :D Loves me some D2.

To be honest, I prefer the AUS8 over the D2 model, but I gave that one to Trade, so he could enjoy having a Phatty. :D
I'll be getting another AUS8, soon.

How does it compare to the knives the OP mentioned? I kinda feel like I should try out a Ka-Bar folder, but my EDC list right now includes a BM Ritter Griptilian (with custom scales coming), a ZT 0350, and a Spyderco Manix 2 in FFG S30V. How does this knife stack up against your more expensive folders? Being Ka-Bar, I'm sure it's a good knife. But is it competitive with more expensive ones?

I'm working on getting one. Promise. I just have to wait...I really pissed the wife off by going(without her knowing, now she knows) and buying a chest rig to accompany my rifle. :D

just an fyi, i had two phat bobs. I used to be one of those "collectors" that hit the ceiling in the budget so i would buy/sell/buy/trade etc etc until tuition payments claimed my collection. I miss them. more than i miss any knife i ever had. I dont dig folders all too much, and the phat bob was replaced by a bk11. I buy folders, fondle em, cut stuff, then they go away. I MISS the phat bob, dearly. I want one in d2, just cant afford it. I want an aus 8, just cant really afford it either, even tho its like $50, since there are so many things on my plate. manixs are great, i like em i do, just dont like the contoured handle since it feel somewhat uncomfortable with different holds and the sprints ended up being safe queens since they didnt knock the phat bob outta my pocket. zt's well i never owned one but i hear good things, they were always just too "tacti-cool" for me. The bm grip, good too, although the handles feel plasticy and like a toy, i guess thats why i just sat there and flipped the axis lock all day. But the phat bob, that sucker is great. feels like a $400 knife in hand and cuts awesome. did i mention i REALLY miss my phat bob.....

As far as cutters go, its one of the best. The DEEP hollow grind leaves a super thin edge, think traditional folder thin edged. Its not a tactical folder in my opinion, its a folding razor blade, and that's how I treat it. Compared to say the 0350, its not as robust, not as heavy, and not as "hard use". If you want a knife that will cut, cut, and cut some more, this is your knife. If you are wanting something you "whoop on", I would stick with the thicker, flat ground knives.

I do love mine, and for what I do daily, which is cardboard cutting and box opening, its perfect. It also does good at making good controlled slices in food as well. :D

IMO what sets the Phat Bob apart from other production folders in it's price range is the fact that it has really cool canvas micarta handles they just look flat out awesome and like they belong on a much more expensive knife.

I know, I'm trying to resist. But it's so hard, being as how it's under 50 bucks shipped... That's not so bad...

Worth every penny. Tell you what I'll do, crimson. Buy one, and if you don't fall head over heels in love with it, I'll buy it from you. Sound fair?

Take the challenge. :D

It's my birthday on Monday..35 years old...Mom asked me what I wanted...you guys sold me pretty easy on this one. If Moose carries one everyday it's good enough for me...and no I'm not being a kiss ass Moose!

I'm giving up on ever getting the D2 one with my BH#. Three emails, one voicemail, and two phone calls... still no knife. And I've had ten people ask me for the shop's phone number.

Sad panda.

The Phat Bob has knocked my beloved SOG mini vulcan out of the number one spot. Had it since Moose gifted it to me on the paddle trip, and damn if it's not my favorite carry now. Ideal companion for a big knife.
