New member and rookie seller. I have some high end knives that I'm interested in selling. Can I get some feedback as to whether I should try e-bay or use a knife seller who will take the knives on consignment? Any help here will be much appreciated.

You could get a gold membership and sell them here.
all da best,

Hi, both ebay & BF can be a great place to sell your cutlery. Serious steel junkies w/ above average knife buying knowledge come here more so than not. Ebay not only draws that group for the most part, but also a HUGE world market, with many people who do not frequent forums or sites such as Bladeforums.

If you have no feedback on ebay than may I recommend selling a few other items of lesser value in order to give yourself a few positive feedbacks before selling your good stuff. If your potential ebay buyers see that you have had a few positive experiences and no negatives than it will definitely make them feel better about bidding on your items.

Also, if you do choose to sell on ebay, be sure and write down any and all facts that you or an anal person would want to know when buying a knife. Nice pictures in multiple angles & offering returns will also help your auction.

Good luck & welcome to Bladeforums!

Well you can sell them here and pay a one time $25 fee for the annual membership.

Or you can pay eBay's 8-10% seller fee on every item sold.

eBay usually fetches a higher price, but you have to factor in the fees. If you really need to offload a knife quickly BFC is the way to go.

Last I sold on EBay I paid 43 dollars to them for 500 dollars worth.
But, they have a new 5 item per month no listing fees, so it was only on the auctions that I paid.
These knives I sold there would not have sold well here, anyway.

Thanks to all who replied. Great information. My son has a lot of experience selling on e-bay so he's a good resource as to the mechanics of the auctions. I think I'll give it a shot with some lesser valued offerings first and see how it goes.
