Sellers on the Exchange

I think knife hunter did (see above).

not really
his irs reason makes no sense to me
nor does the security one ,because if you post an i will take it in a sale thread most people here have an idea of ballpark value anyways so removing the price changes little
if people prefer to remain anonymous they can deal via pm or email and then the seller can post when it is sold and leave the price

Depends on the individual. If you're turning $20K worth of INFI in a year, you might have reason to want those sale prices to go away.

well point taken but if they are turning that much a year they maybe/probably should be in the dealers section and be filing taxes as such
otherwise i dont see why the irs would be interested in people selling their personal collection

I could care less either way, but a sale is between 2 folks, so they are the only ones who need to know the selling price.

true but with no previous sell prices to go by it makes it harder for both the buyer and seller (imo)

It isn't really hard, the seller knows what he paid and also a round about figure of what they want for it. As for the buyer......if they want it and they can afford it, they get it.

The only reason I see for prices to stay up is so that sellers can keep increasing the price. It was XXX 2 months ago, so it is ok for me to ask xxx+50.

The Cultellus showed up on the exchange, 275, then crept up to 315.......because each new seller saw how fast the last guy sold his for and figured he can get 5 more.

I don't think that it should be a set rule to leave the price up.

I used to adamantly believe that seller should leave the price up, and in fact got flamed for it a few years ago in TGBU.

But since then I have done a few sales/trades here, and it's never what the last posted offer was. There is always a bit of "back room" dealing going on.

I think the final price is private, and not public info.

Although I can see how it would be beneficial to traders.

The price thing can work so many ways. What if it sold below "market value", what if it sold above "market value", what if it didn't sell for the asking price posted and a different price was negotiated via PM's? Should we edit the original post to put the price paid?

For a while there, some were quoting the initial post to "lock it in", but I guess that fell out of favor when they started the "no chit-chat" crackdown.

It would be nice if the prices were left up. This is the only guide available for pricing these knives. However inaccurate, it is better than nothing. I use it as a buyer, not a seller. Some people do not want to share information with others, and some don't mind. I expect the patterns will not change much, no matter what. People will either leave the price or they won't. I keep a spreadsheet with most of the Busse, Swamp Rat, and Scrapyard knives listed, and as I check the exchange and see prices, I include it in the spreadsheet so I can always refer back to it and at least know what a few of each knife sold for. For instance, an apprentice SHII just went up for sale for $450. I entered that in my spreadsheet and will have it for future reference.
