Ok, I am curious about the process of selling a knife. I have no idea of how it all works so I have a few questions. See below.

1. Could I sell the knife to TKC or the like?

2. How do I decide my asking price?

3. How will shipping work?

4. How do I get the most money for the knife I sell?

Also, please be sure mention any useful or important information you may have.

Please keep in mind that I am not yet offering anything for you to purchase!

1. You can sell to whomever you like, provided there are laws prohibiting you from doing so, like shipping automatics.

2. That's a question you will have to decided for yourself. You can study completed auctions on eBay and in the Knife Exchange here to give you some ideas, assuming it's not a unique specimen.

3. Go read the sticky on shipping in the Exchange.

4. If it's popular and rare, sell it on eBay where you can get enthusiasts bidding against each other. If you don't want to lose 10% in commissions, sell it here and ask what you hope to get. If it doesn't sell than you'll need to re-evaluate your asking price.

It'll cost you $25 for a Gold membership here to be able to sell in the exchange, so if you're only selling a a single piece then paying the eBay fees is probably the best bargain. If not, then pony up the $25 and support this site.

Really, the best thing you could do is read all the info at the top of the page here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=746

every one out there on the other sites are shipping auto's in the mail. if it is against the law then why are they not doing anything about it? I am just wondering why??

Which "they" are we talking about . . . the people that are shipping autos in the mail or the people that enforce the laws? If it's the former, perhaps it's because they know the odds of getting caught are remote at best. If it's the latter, perhaps it's because there's not enough of them to go around.

For what it's worth, I'm not advocating breaking the law. And I, for one, don't buy automatic knives because I know it would be illegal for me to do so. I believe that falls under the category of acting like a responsible citizen.

Rich T we been through this before. It is illegal. If you think they never go after anyone, just ask Sal from Syderco how wrong you are.

This site is a good place to sell, but everyone here is aware of the best deals out there, so don't expect to get top dollar here. Try Ebay as suggested for the highest dollar....

Its illegal, there are plenty of things I could do that are illegal, not getting caught (this time) doesn’t make it any less of a bad idea.

I agree, with eBay it can be hit and miss, often your action will depend on how you “build” your listing. If you don’t do it right you might not get the kind of views that you want. Selling it on BFC is a win, win. You don’t have to worry about wording your title and description in such a way that you get the most views, you don’t have to worry about finding the right buyer before the time counts down and you’re supporting the site at the same time.

I think if you end up selling here on BFs you will find a good bunch of people here, whom on the most part honor a sales agreement, and are fair and knowledgable. Lot less aggravation than Ebay can be at times

Perhaps you want to test out your assumption by selling an auto to the Attorney General of Illinois. Let us know how that works out for you.
