I was thinking this exact same thing.
I bet you find he did a poor jimping job and decided he no longer wanted this knife.

+another 1 on this . You wear completely with in your rite to tell the guy tough, especially after he insulted your work. That being said you made the correct business decision . One cannot explain the situation to every person an unhappy customer talks to, plus by getting the knife back and giving him his money you will never ha e to speak to him again. I would add that there is a very small group of people in this world I will never sell another knife too, wear it me I would quietly add his name to that group and move on. This is a small community and one quickly builds reputation good or bad. For what it is worth you handled this perfectly.
 
If a customer modified my knife, it would be his-pure and simple.

I fully agree. Especially if you stated the specs correctly and were honest in your sale. To alter it and then to say he doesn't like it? Not right.

I am glad you gave it away and made someone happy. It does make you feel better for sure. That gentleman will remember that next time he is in need of a new knife and will definatey contact you. Glad it worked out.
