Send the Smoke!

If you can, get some fluorescent or full-spectrum light on your father. Babies with jaundice are often placed in a "Bili bed" that has some sort of fluorescent light. The lightwaves breakdown the bilirubin into metabolites that the body can remove more easily. Obviously, your pop can't use the standard "Bili bed" (unless he's under 2' tall), so light will help alleviate his jaundice.

What ThomB said. My baby girl had a stay under those lights. Full spectrum is good.

John, I also note that family comes together in sort of a reunion fashion at these times. Good to have em around at such times. Hang in there, through the tough times.
