Senior Member means nothing...but it should

My preference would be to ditch the titles thing. I can't see that it adds anything.

However I think the "member since" or registered on phrase is helpful.

MTF3,
There is a "maker's for sale" section and a "custom knives" section. I think that is plenty.

On the topic in general...we all know who the regulars are in general, and specifically in the various forums we frequent the most. Labels are meaningless, except to help the newer mmebers get an idea of who is who (or is that who is whom, or whom is who, or whom is whom, but I digress).

the problem with this solution as I see it it:I still think people will post to have a huge post number. One of the biggest post "offenders" recently hit 400 last week and even after reaching senior is still posting the same crap.At the rate he is going he will probably top 500 by the end of the week.I'm a pretty tolerant guy,but A person can only read so many crap posts by one person before the nerves wear thin.

I was thinking I could change it to show that people over 1,000 posts could be called, "Certified KnifeNutt!" or "Yes I have no life at all", or "Yes my wife left me!".....

Yes, I read Mike's post about labels. I also believe Mike and Spark can do many things with this forum, just look at all the changes/improvements made.

I am not a seller or maker. I am a "buyer" and I would much rather do business with someone that supports this forum by purchasing an ad. Labels do create emotions with some people, just like this start of this topic. I don't pay a dime to participate and enjoy this web site. I have hit it everyday since last August and still have less than 100 posts. Senior Member status wasn't my goal.

Those that do pay should be recognized. With over 5,000 members, everyone can't be pleased. I only have one opinion and didn't pay anything to express it.

thanks guys!!!!

i was closing in on 100 this week and didnt want to be labeled senior

I'm glad the senior member status is now gone. Too many people saw it as some sort of "title", which it simply wasn't. Now that all the profile information is available under people's names, it's easy to tell when someone's a troll based on their date of registration and/or number of posts.

Should others propose that we bestow certain members with real titles in the future, I would strongly vote against it. In fact, I don't want to vote for or against anything at all. BladeForums is not a fraternity, nor is it even an organization. It's a privately owned public forum; I can't imagine having people campaign to be seated on a Senior Membership Committee, complete with public debates, constant pleas for votes, knife show campaign stops, etc...

You'd pretty much hit the mark in my case Mike

. Two out of three anyway, and maybe the last being, "my wife will leave me if she sees the credit card statement..."

Gee Phil, see what you started? Now I'll never get to read another "Yay,I made senior" post again. I think making everyone a member is a good move Mike, this site is improving every week. Thanks for all your efforts.

Now everyone who attained senior status is no longer obligated to send the other members a knife! Great.

(Does this qualify as a meaningless post?)

Obviously from what I've seen the "member" field can be manually designated, so....

Instead of just yanking the "senior" from everyone, use the ability and edit individuals and label them with a "BF" label. Just come up with something that identifies the contribution of the person...

Would take a lot of creativity, but would be very fun

.

For example, Vampire Gerbil's label could be "Rodentus Moderator of Darkness...." or something like that.

I post BS clown posts when I see fit, but that is who I am in my personal life as well. I am fun, and crack jokes as often as I can. I do a mean Elvis impersonation as well.... I'll do it at the first BF Convention.

Hey there you go.... Harley D has Sturgis, Rock and Roll has Woodstock; for goodness sake Country and Western has the Grand Ole Opry. Where will our first mass gathering be?

Envision a nationwide knife-nut meeting. Makers and addicts.... Not like a show, but a meeting of the freaks... Would have to be in Vegas I would think, hell the Shot Show was there and I wasn't invited..

.....

Wow, I didn't even notice I had over 100 post till today. I guess I was a "Senior Member" for a day or two. I'm not really sure, 'cause the last two times I was on were the results of severe insomnia, and I wasn't entirely cognizant. Personally I don't see what all the hoopla was about, and I won't miss anything. It's just too bad some folks got all riled up about it. after a few days or weeks, I doubt it will ever come up again.

Brandon,

Again, we do not have the ability to pick and choose who get's what designation. The membership levels are based on number of posts, or whether the person is a moderator or admin.

We've made everyone members instead of having the member / senior member divisions; maybe one day we'll have the ability to pick and choose, but we don't at this time.

Well I'll be the lone voice of disagreement.I liked the senior status,in fact took me a long time to attain it.I'am not to happy right now

I have been a lurker here at Bladeforums for approximately a year now. I have learned a great deal about knives, in that short time. personally I think the senior member/ member debate is a wast of time. Just read what the person has to say, and draw your own conclusion, regardless of their status.

Senior Member was never a big deal.Easyrider:welcome to the Forums.

I think that to abolish the "senior" designation at this point would be a mistake. I always felt that the tag existed to encourage participation, not separate us. I would especially hate to see an "elite" established that most collectors and Knife Knuts could not belong to. I almost think I hear the faint sound of some sour grapes beginning.Let's just move on.
