I will not name who made this or what it is called, (though the name is comically bad and can be read from the blade if you have good eyes), in case I might embarrass some poor soul here who paid $300 or more for it.

I did want to share the advertising copy from a major internet retailer that accompanied this knife's picture in my inbox:

"This semi-custom piece, (from a limited run of 250 ever made), by ___________, is one of the most unique and intimidating combat knives we carry. There isn't much that this solid hunk of D2 steel can't hack or slice through, which also makes it an excellent survival knife. The chainsaw-like backwards serrations aren't just there for show, they're devastating upon exit—essentially eviscerating any opponent who has the misfortune of a gut or ventral entry, (hence the name ___________). The textured G10 scales and grooves provide for the superior ergonomics you'll need to properly wield this monster."

Lol. Who is the market for this type of thing, especially coupled to this style of ad copy? There can't be that many 12 year olds with the cash and permission to drop $300 on such an item, yet someone out there buys things like this or its competitors, as it is hardly alone in this niche.

Insights?

I thought I recognized that... :foot:
My favorite is the Zombie Green edition with blood spatters!!!! :p --- :D

I think if you judge others based on their knife purchases than you are the problem, live and let live. People have tastes that change, but for now those who like this sort of thing don't need folks like you trying to make them feel bad for their tastes. Your goal is to shame those who buy knives like this, I think that is despicable behavior for a community that should be inclusive and friendly.

I tend to agree with Mr. King. What is stupid for X is great for Y, and vice versa. The marketplace will quickly weed out products that no one wants. It is self-cleaning, if we will just leave it alone.

My goal is not to shame anyone, primarily because buying this thing indicates a healthy amount of shamelessness. In fact, I don't think anyone who has spent more than five days here would buy this thing, so I am probably not even indicting anyone in this "community."

Nevertheless, all kinds of tasteless things have their fans. The movie Road House was objectively awful, and it became something of a cult classic.

I seriously want to know what people are seeing in this kind of thing when they pull the trigger on it. Once again, I don't think the target market for this blade is even represented here so we are left to speculate.

Come on folks. People are spending $300 on this knife. And you think we're the problem for trying to help them make better decisions? We'd be despicable if we didn't!

Not my style. I can buy a real combat proven knife for around 1/10 the price of that thing, if I needed a combat knife, that is. I'd much rather have an Ontario 499 or 498, both are proven in combat.

PT Barnum said it best . . . there's a sucker born every minute.

" "There's a sucker born every minute" is a phrase most likely spoken by David Hannum, in criticism of both P. T. Barnum, an American showman of the mid 1800s, and his customers. The phrase is often credited to Barnum himself. "

Yeah, yeah. I know.

I've seen it posted elsewhere in this community, in the for sale section as well as others, so I think this community has members who have purchased this knife, either in the past or currently owning it. What you just said is that buying this knife means you forfeit any protection from shaming by the knife people who wouldn't buy this, which is directly shaming them by saying they should be shamed. Who cares if someone buys this knife? You, apparently. How does purchasing this knife affect you in any way? If people want it, companies will make it, and there's really nothing you can say that will change that part of the economy. The company that made this specializes in making overpriced knives that sell based on the brand, purchasing the one that looks funny doesn't mean any more than purchasing the ones that look less funny and happen to fold.

tl;dr to each their own, the shamers are the problem, not the buyers.

They should rename it to the Snaginator.
Or Snagglepuss.....Snaggletooth?

I think some one "accidentally" added a zero to the price, and after the first person bought one, they just let it ride.

Because for that price, you are in nice production, or custom range.

Mahatma Gandhi once said.... "Live and Let Live"

BTW, our good buddy/actor/sorta knifemaker buddy Todd Begg makes a knife that looks just like that...
The main difference is you need to add a 2 in front of the 3.

As long as the knife community is represented by things like that 3 episode TV show, that (or something like it) will be the knife that most people in the general public will associate with a "knife enthusiast"

If it's not a Begg, someone is ripping them off. I'm shocked Mark isn't apoplectic over it.
