Serrated Vs Plain edge

I prefer the plain edge too, but plan on picking up a rat with serrations soon. Everybody that has one says there great so I might as well give em a shot and it's a good excuse to pick up another knife:D

Like I said, the RAT serrations are pretty good.

They leave a flat between the serrations so you can sharpen it on a standard stone.

If I were going to get a serrated knife, it would be a RAT.

I guess I meant they are a great price for what you get. I have been in the Busse arena for a while so these knives look like a steal. I guess in the overall picture of things they would fall into the mid price range for value. You get what you like. I like these knives.

Yeah im a bit of a busse fan boy and rat knives are comparativley cheap, but when a task needs to be done i reach for a rat, man theyre great knives.

Gotta have one of each... Right?:D

3 of the 4 RAT's I've got are plain, only the RC-4 is serrated.

When I worked as an EMT I only carried serrated, because seat-belts, clothes and straps cut easier that way :D

Hi all,
new to the forum, and new to RAT knives.

I fish alot, and have been looking for a decent bait knife/utility knife. I usually go for plain edge, but was thinking of a RAT RC-3 with combo edge to get through the scales on some of the bait fish. what do you think?

Welcome to the world of RAT, this whole thread is pretty much all the pros and cons of serrated vs plain. It all comes down to its intended use and preference. Either way you really cant go wrong with any RAT, so read up and enjoy.

I solved the problem quite easily.
I bought a desert tan rc-3 in plain edge
and a orange rc-3 in combo edge

how do you like my solution?:D

I just picked up a new rc-5 black blade with serrations on the exchange here and am really looking forward to it. It's coming with an od sheath and I already have an od plain edge with a tan sheath. I love the variety RAT offers:D

Plain edge for me. Only have one serrated Edge that I like it's a Sak. The serrations are on the tip to 2/3rd down, use it at work all the time.
