SERRATIONS--love em or hate em??

Depending on the intended use of the knife, I can take 'em or leave 'em. Given a choice, I'll go with a plain edge. But, several times over the years, I've encountered great sale prices on part serrated models (I suppose because they don't sell as well as the PE models, and sometimes retailers have to clear them out).

For example, here are a couple examples of knives I found on sale for 50-70% off - RAT-1 and Cold Steel Voyager. At those kinds of discounts, part-serrated doesn't bother me so much - I bought 10 of the RATs and a dozen of the Voyagers (in all its sizes).

Now, full-serrated is a completely different story. I'd buy one that was seriously discounted, but only 1 or 2, not 10.

Fully serrated knives are awesome. Far beyond the simple loaf of bread, hoses, or stereotypical materials. A bad mechanic always blames their tools. ;)

Full serrations or no serrations at all. I used to be all about partial serrations but have grown to dislike the look....

This. I have gotten rid of almost all my partial serrated knives in favor of plain edges. I find that most combo blades don't offer large enough edge, plain or serrated, for a decent EDC.

We've all seen huge collections..30+ knives, and always 100% plain edges. It's probably been a long time since some of them have tried using a serrated edge just because of resharpening. Another issue is that not all serrations are created equal. Some companies designed a useful serration pattern for daily use. Spyderco and Microtech in my experience.

And it has an aesthetic appeal in my opinion. One of my faves...

I have a thing for fully-serrated Spydercos and a Rescue is in the arm console in my car. Thinking about upgrading to an Assist. Otherwise I'm not a huge fan of serrated knives.

Depends on the knife.
Depends on the serrations.
Depends on what I have to cut.

So the answer is...carry more knives! :)

I'm a no serrations guy all the way but, I just recently did a spa treatment for one of my dad's old school spydercos, the kind with the built in plastic clip. It was fully serrated and I kinda want something similar now.

Full serrations or no serrations at all. I used to be all about partial serrations but have grown to dislike the look (and most of my knives are benchmades and they won't sharpen serrations).
My thoughts exactly. I can't stand partial serrations.

As I got more involved with pocket knives, I started to navigate to more plain edge knives. I still have 5 or 6 knives that are half and half.
This is one of my full serrated. Colonial knife auto with wicked serrations. There is nothing this won't cut through like butter.

Useless 97% of the time and a pain in the arse to sharpen. Great for a dedicated "cut yourself free when hung up in a horse" knife though.
