how many of you EDC a knife with a combo edge. I personally dont see them on a folder, and have never had the need for them on any EDC of mine. what about you?

I used to think that all of my folders should be combo edged with partial serrations but I only occasionally purchase them now. I prefer plain edged blades in many cases but there are times when serrations come in handy (cutting rope, cardboard, lots of tape, etc.) In fact just about everytime I open a package or want to rip something open I always reach for one of my fully serrated Spyderco knives.

When it comes to my everyday carry knife I rotate between a plain edge Seki-Cut Bob Lum little Encounter folder and a combo edged Bradley Alias II will be added soon.

In my car I keep a plain edge Benchmade Snody JuJu fixed blade and an MOD Mark I partially serrated folder. I have to admit that serrations look cool on a knife to me.

i like both partial serrations, and plain edge.

at work i carry a partially serrated because of the possibility of having to cut a seatbelt or other strap/rope.

on days off, i carry mostly plain edged folders. all my customs are plain edge.

No.

I find them remarkably aesthetically displeasing.

I am also a balisong enthusiast, so in the even of an accidental cut, I'd rather have a nice clean cut than a jagged and torn cut.

I think they are ugly as hell. Combo Edge is especially ugly to me. I want either fully serrated or plain edge. Combo is a very poor compromise in performance IMHO. A fully serrated and a plain edge cover any cutting needs. Something like a pair of enduras or in my case a pair of military models.

None of mine have partial serrations, but I do have a Delica that is fully serrated that is usually on or near me.

Aesthetically, I prefer a plain edge and go after that for most of my knives. Also I like having less to worry about when sharpening with a full plain edge. In fact, after i learned how to keep a respectable edge on a knife, I felt less drawn to serrations in general.

Still - full or partial serrations definitely have their uses. Like Morimotom pointed out - if i had to cut a seat belt in an emergency situation -- please hand me something serrated.

I like blades with the combo edge. I do prefer a small area of serrations though.

I have been carrying a Military combo edge and can honestly say the the serrations get in the way of a good knife.

I am currently waiting on a new knife (plain edge blade) to arrive which will takes it's place.

I still love my Millie and it will stay in rotation but not for constant EDC.

+1
my EDC started fully serrated but then ground it to partially S and few weeks later it was plain edge.

if i were a LE of Fire/Rescue or would readily be in a position where i would have to cut cloth or rope/belt/straps in a hurry ild prolly (also) carry a specialty rescue knife (always serrated).

I got a few knives with PS edges and I got to say that I like PE more for general use. The last one I got with a PS was an Spyderco Endura 4 and just because i found a great deal on eBay. If I was to buy another one now I would go with a PE for sure.

When I go climbing I pack a Rescue 93 SE though. I guess serrations make sense in these situations.

yeah, in those situations its best to have a Rescue (dull tip) version, so you can cut blind without having to worry about stabbing yourself or the other person.

in the dark
in merky water
in your back
behind a person that cant be moved
or stuck in a narrow spot where you cant see where you are moving the knife

For me, it depends what the knife is mainly going to be used for. The only knives I have with serrations are Spdies, apart from a Frosts Swedish Army Knife, which has partial serrations. I cut a lot of rope, cardboard, and tape, so serrations work on an EDC for me.

Plain, but the serrated edge on my SAK OHT is very functional. Also, I like having the choice of a plain clip and a serrated sheepsfoot on my Leatherman Wave.

Exactly. I cut my thumb two summers ago with a partially serrated Endura, and it was a jagged mess. It is also much easier for me to sharpen a plain edged knife. A lot of my first folders were combo edged, but after living with them for awhile, I purchased plain edged knives and no longer edc serrated knives. Serrations look "mall ninja cool", and for people who cut a lot of rope they may be handy, but I have little use for them.

Partial serrations do not bother me on folders in the 3.5 - 4 inch range, I own a mix of both. The 710hssr is a great knife, mine is an early model and the serrations are not cut as deeply into the blade. I do not like serrations so much on the smaller blades, with one exception- a BM 943sbk. Sharpmaker seems to work just fine on serrations, no problem sharpening.
