I'm no different than most forumites that visit this site at least three times during my working day. Yeah, my employer would prefer that I didn't (lack of productivity[?])or not. So I visit on my breaks, lunch hour, and near the end of the day.
Most recently my employer (much to my chagrin has installed "Websense" which targets and blocks "chatrooms". Most certainly it prevents me from purchasing knives from internet dealers that offer safe servers! It just won't happen for me, so I have to research the web and find those dealers that have what I want, take the credit card I normally use (AMEX), but MOST IMPORTANTLY they list a telephone number on their website for guys like me. Sometimes they forget and I email them for a number and they give it to me and I spend more money than I normally would. Ergo...everyone is happy.
Today, I contacted a internet dealer (name withheld)via email and asked for a telephone number so I could order, even advising him what I was looking for and that I intended to buy. I got a return email thanking me for my interest, but advising they weren't set up for telephone service and limiting their business to the internet exclusively.
Well, this guy has every right to run his "business" the way he sees fit. But, I don't think I'm the only one that shops during the day and uses a company computer to do it. Further, I doubt if I am the only one that can't order over a secured server for one reason or another. This dealer just lost an easy $100 today and probably an easy $100 from me for each successive month (I'm a knife junky)!
So the morale is you may be on the cutting edge of technology and have cornered the market on the hottest stock the guys want, but you're not offering service--just an order desk. Thanks Mr. Dealer for your time, I'll drop over to the other guys that have a telephone number. (I've even ordered knives via email--but this guy will never know it--basic accomodation was sacrificed for expediency). Oh well, enough of my soap box (he knows who he is when he reads this). Bet I can find someone to take my order the old fashioned way!
