so how's the edc rotation for you? Can't imagine it's disappointing :)

It's going well.

:)

Because I intend to keep these same knives, I've been chopping and changing with carry methods and have went around most of the possible options. My very favourite is simple front right clip carry, but that is out most of the time because I work both in office and outdoors. So it's came down to safe carry with good access. I tried deep pocket, deep pocket with the slipcase and I have finally settled on the belt sheath over the past few days with clip carry at home. I have two tan sheaths and am on the lookout for a black one for suit days.

The knives themselves are doing great. The funny one is the inner cut Mammoth Ivory which has turned a creamier colour already.

The stand was put back a wee bit as I had to cut some more sticks. The first batch had some bad cuts and was only useful as firewood. It really upset me at the time as I spent a good couple of day picking out good grains and knots only to find it was bad. But I had a free day last weekend and cut some new stuff which I'm equally well pleased with. I hope to start some of it soon.

So, yes, I'm very pleased with it so far. I don't miss the other knives or bits and pieces I sold off to help fund this so that's a good sign.

I can indeed see me living with these for the duration.

VERY nice knives.Im glad theyre going to be edc rather than mostly in the

safe and fondled once in a while.

A little update on my desk stand for the Sebbies - I started it yesterday. Bad news is, I am really buggered for somewhere to work as I have no solid bench or a strong base so I am stuck with a Skil Workbench and an old wooden stool. Good news is, I've had great fun with it. I was feeling 50-50 about it all for a while before I got into it and started to enjoy the time.

Here is my tiny set-up with the two stools and a close-up of what I did yesterday which is the base (Pieces D & E shown blue & yellow in the picture, post.10, above)

Then today, I did a couple more bits and pieces. First off, as it was hidden a little under the sledge yesterday, here's the base shape clearer -

Then I made the rows which the knives will sit on -

It's going to be a slow affair as I'm only going to work at it for a couple of hours at the weekends. The next job will be making the cross-members for these rows and building both sets up (Pieces A & B shown green in the picture, post.10, above)

Cheers,

Fantastic stable of sebbies! I particularly like the 2008 Limited Edition, Mammoth Ivory inlay and Raindrop Damasteel blade.

What might make a worthy addition to your sebbie collection is a Mnandi with Mammoth Ivory inlay and Raindrop Damasteel blade.

Congrats!

Hi folks,

Some of you may remember that I had earlier mentioned my idea to collect seven large Sebbies. The plan was to carry and then change my Sebenza every evening and that starts tomorrow, Sunday 17th January 2010 with the Boxwood Elder Sebbie. Having been carried for that day, it will be put away until the following week after picking out a new one at random for the next day. I haven't started to make the Blackthorn desk stand to hold them on yet as I'm still not convinced the sticks are fully dried to prevent splitting. There's no panic anyway as I have to change my original idea of two rows holding the seven knives because I fancy including my desk knife into the design now. I’ll post a picture of the stand when it is finished later.

I have four Classics and four Regulars. Seven will be for carry while the other, the S30V Micarta Classic, will be my desk knife.

Now some pictures the collection;

The Classics are,

Classic with Snakewood inlay and S30V stainless steel blade.
Classic with Micarta inlay and S30V stainless steel blade.
Classic 21 with Micarta inlay and Raindrop Damasteel blade.
Classic with Mammoth Ivory inlay and Basketweave Damasteel blade.

2008 Limited Edition . Mammoth Ivory inlay and Raindrop Damasteel blade.
2009 Limited Edition. Boxwood Elder inlay and S30V stainless steel blade.

Mark,
This One Really Trips My Trigger, 2008 LE White Mammoth Ivory & Rain/Drop Damascus

I spent some more time at my Sebenza desk stand this weekend and here's what I got done.

Yesterday I built both knife holding rows. If you notice some of the sticks different it's because I've put a coat of sealer on everything which is finished as the bark can move away from the wood at the ends and around the knots leaving a tiny gap. It'll all be sanded again anyway just before I start the varnishing so this should preserve the wood until it's all ready for that final sanding and tidy-up after assembly.

First I cut the four cross-members and then carved out the notches on the rows -

Then I assembled it all together with glue and screws -

After drying I grinded the screw heads down flush with the wood and applied a sealer to the four new bits. Here are the two rows as they'll look on the stand -

Then today I decided to try making the mount for my desk knife (They're pieces F & G shown orange in the picture, post.10, above) They took a bit longer that I thought they would with one thing and another but all's well that ends well. Here is where the desk knife will stand on the base -

I had my first moment of worry as I had already had it dowelled and glued but couldn't quite get it standing straight so I had to rush up to my fishing stuff and get some old lines to help hold it at the proper angle. After a bit of a panic and running around, I came up with the daftest bit of clamping you'll ever see -

100_5403.jpg

I’m not sure yet if it will need the two diagonal supports at the front which I was originally planning. It should be strong enough already and I don't want to crowd it. If it does needs it, that will be my next job or I'll go back to the previous idea of making the eight platform holders which will carry the knife rows (Piece C shown red in the picture, post.10, above) next weekend.

Cheers,

Mark

I love your Sebenza collection. I am jealous. I only have one Sebbie. I want more. You have too many toys. Me wants your toys.

Ok. Now that that is out. I am saving my pennys for another Sebbie. I'm ok, your ok.
