That is absolutely true. I'm not familiar with any cutlery steel manufacturers north of the wall, the reason I had this made is because almost all the ones available to buy are tourist tat.
.

speaking of tourist tat......this is a knife I bought on a visit to Scotland in 1972,,,it was nice to be able to buy a knife AND get a pint or two to drink at 15....LOL

that is a beautiful knife you had made , and congratulations on your forthcoming wedding!

Drinking in a pub at 15?! naughty naughty!

Aye, it's a pity Scotland has a massive supply of stag antlers available and because the tourists buy it, it gets used for all manner of crap. A real shame. I was speaking with BRKT a while ago with an enquiry and they told me that they had a stag shortage issue. The island where I live sees approx 5000 stags and 10000 hinds culled each year because they can't be controlled. If you want to shoot one it'll cost you about £10 a head. Hunters take note and come visit the Western Isles!

That's interesting Paul, I've heard the same in Sheffield recently, can't think why.

Import and/or Export Restrictions

I can understand that for export abroad but for within the UK? How come Sheffield can't get ahold of Scottish stag antlers? Seems odd. Maybe we should start a business Jack..... ;)

You are tugging at my heart strings.

How does that work? Bow and arrow? I wan under the impression GB is very hostile towards firearms. How difficult is it to bring in a rifle for a hunting expedition?

if you cull 5000 stags and it cost 10 pounds to get in on the hunt,,,,how many are left to shed their antlers? seems like there would be alot of sheds available to gather on your island. there are people that train labs here to find them too.....shed hunting is a sport in its self.

Good idea mate :)

I really can't understand it Paul, a couple of cutlers are currently using camel bone instead (looks very nice I have to say), including Trevor Ablett. Plenty of local stag here, and you'd think there would be business arrangments going back decades. Maybe there is an international element, and they can get a higher price for it elsewhere in Europe.

I must have seen 50 deer on the Harewood Estate the other day, and Chatsworth is even closer to Sheffield. Perhaps someone is hoarding it! ;)

Maybe none of the stag suppliers want their lovely 'product' going on a hideous Sheffield knife! :D

I expected you are right in it being sold for a better price abroad.
