This has been my idea ever since the announcement of the ASH1 release. I am going to rework a ASH1 into something close to the original SH1. I finally got somewhat settled into the new home and my shop is partly setup. I have some 3/8" black linen micarta to make the hand shaped scales from. I bought a regular and magnum handle ASH1 to see which I liked better. I decided to use the regular handle one on the project because the magnum has the extra meat on them to alter later if I want, plus they do feel better. Here are the first pictures:
ASH1 handle comparison:

Scales removed, this is "U26" maybe it stands for "Urban coat, #26".

Stripping the coating off.

Here is the stripped ASH1 and a SH1, the finish on the ASH1 under the paint is a dead ringer for the finish on the SH1!
