The Shaman was a knife that I was very interested in and put off but now that I own one I really enjoy it. It is my favorite Spyderco that I own and could easily beat out the Para 2 any day of the week.

I know that the materials/price are keeping some members away. It did me as well but now that I own the knife I'm glad that I do. If I lost it I would buy another immediately. This isn't a thread to talk about the value of the Shaman but to talk about what we'd like to see in future sprint runs.

Sal has mentioned carbon fiber and s90v. I'm not huge on either one of those (although many of you might be). Let's put together a survey and see what other options people may really dig.

Blade Steel:
Choose your top 3 options for blade steel.

Handle:
I didn't add handle material - I feel that would make the survey cumbersome. I prefer micarta/G10 myself and would be fine with either. You can indicate your handle material preference in a comment.

What's a thread without a picture?

Man, the Shaman is a Spyderco I didn't think I'd be interested in when it came out, but it keeps looking better and better to me.

My favorite design they make. It checks a lot of boxes. You put one of the above steels in it and you've really got something special.

Might want to clarify which Rex steel in the survey. Rex 45? Crucible makes about a dozen steels labeled as "Rex." If we had a choice, I'd take Rex 121.

The online catalog lists M4 as CPM M4 HC the data sheet lists it as CPM Rex M4 HC. They also make a non-CPM version of Rex M4. I'm assuming Spyderco knives get the CPM version of M4?

Cruwear, cruwear, and cruwear. Haven't handled a shaman at all, but given how big and beefy it is, and how much of a workhorse it seems to be designed for, it is one knife that could benefit from a tougher steel such as cruwear. I prefer it to M4 and other non-stainless steels, just because it seems to be more resistant to staining.

It will never happen,,, the base retail price for a Shaman is +$50 over the PM2.
Not enough sales to justify a Sprint run.

FK

Would Prefer Cruwear, then M390 (or variant of). IMO, micarta is for fixed blades only so G10 handle in any of those steels would be my vote.

There is at least three or four shaman sprint run threads already. Just a heads up.

Any of m390 204p 20cv rex m4 would be fine with me. What I really want to see is an xl shaman with a 4" blade:p

Yes - the guy made a valid point about the price. But hey we can all dream.

This is my favorite Spyderco I've owned, probably even with the Delica as my favorite modern folder ever. I am happy with it as it comes now (materials), and I agree I'd replace it without hesitation.
If it were to come in another steel I'd prefer something stain-less and not incredibly difficult to sharpen.

I don't get the point about pricing. A para 2 runs $136.47. Sprint runs are never $50 more than that. My 20cv just ran me less than $145. Even if the price for a Cruwear or 20cv did cost $50 more I would not be turned off by that.

I'm in agreement about a 4 inch version. Would suit me just fine.

I voted Elmax. Maybe with an ivory or antique ivory linen Micarta.
I’d also really like XHP and brown scales, Micarta >> G-10.
Basically, this guy needs a big brother.

Ooh, you know what we don't see much of from Spyderco? Natural micarta. Polished and stonewashed Elmax with natural micarta would look good.
