Shaman sprint run?

So before I get Stoned to Death in here after reading all the above, please understand. My buddy in Cali visits a lot of Gun and knife shops. Since I live in Hawaii, if I have my eye on something I always let him know to purchase it if he sees it somewhere when he’s gun/knife shopping. Luckily our interests on knives don’t align, lol. So he was able to snag one of these Shaman Micarta Cruwear for me from a Mom & Pop store. Of the 20+ knives I’ve asked him to look for, this is only the second one that he was able to snag.

All of you who made it in the KC preorder in the first 2 hours should be ok. I was told my KC preorder was made at 1.5 hours into the 2 hour window. They just filled my order today.

Did we just become best friends?!! Haha!

I have a feeling that there’s no way I made the preorder window.
Congrats on scoring two!

This pattern seems to be emerging as these are getting delivered to dealers:

- no matter how quick on the draw, no one who has been commenting on here has been able to successfully complete a purchase from any of the dealers. I can't comment on the same on Spyderco's own Forum as I have stopped trolling that one (not a member there).

- more and more of these are immediately showing up on eBay, specially as of a few days ago since the dealers have been getting their very limited supplies.

I am therefore going to speculate that if the dealers are getting a handful to a dozen of these, maybe something as little as 1 or 2 go up for sale and the rest are grabbed internally, whether through nepotism or reserved for those dealers' VIP members. If people are going to sully their reputation by clearing $100ish on a hot-potato knife like this situation, so be it but I'm not going to be a part of this charade. I don't mind paying $100, $200 or more on a sought after knife which I missed out on (cue Nathan Carothers knives in here) but I refuse to do that in such cases when people swoop in for a quick profit (some call these types flippers / scalpers).

This theory of yours if laughable. You're speculating that a company would risk damaging their reputation and relationship with a Spyderco so... some employees can flip knives on the secondary market? Sorry, it ain't happening.

laughing is good therapy for the soul :D

Note, not one single person on here has scored one as they have been dropping! Not all are slow-mo geezers either! The only ones who landed one did so by calling around it seems!

Frankly, I don't think Spyderco has any control in whether a company's employees purchase one of their knives or not, so their ethics are a non-issue. As far as the individual retailers go, it's the same deal IMO. They have no control over who buys their knives...or if an employee is buying a knife whether that employee intends to flip the knife or keep it. They could not care less--and rightfully so I might add--what an employee does with a knife as long as the knife doesn't end up in the hands of some homicidal maniac. They are in business and their business is making money so they can feed and clothe their families. Again, ethics and police-state oversight don't come into play at all here so Casinostocks Casinostocks may very well be correct here. But who knows for sure???

It looks like I might be stuck with this spyderco in cruwear and micarta.

I think I'm okay with that.

Chasing this pattern like an animal in heat has had its silver lining, at least in my case:

- I had to find out what all the fuss was about the Shaman so when I dug around and found out the National Knives LLC had the more expensive CF/S90V model in stock (sold out everywhere else other than the secondary markets) I snagged one and in the process I found out that NK is actually a really great dealer which also happens to be a BF supporter. I have bought limited runs and sprint runs in the past from bigger(?) better-know(?) dealers like BHQ but honestly it left me feel lacking. At least NK bothered to read my comments with the order and checked it off as read and also included a micro-fiber cloth with it. I know that it doesn't cost much, but great customer service matters. NK has earned buy business and also I can live with the CF Shaman. It is sleek in the handles but way more satisfying than chasing the CruWear like a dog in you know what! S90V is no slouch either and the steel of choice when it comes to Shirogorov Knives and their CD folders.

I am still hoping to get this SOB one day just because I really would like to pass it onto my friend grogimus. I am hoping that KC comes through for me just for that reason :)

Damn straight. I lucked out with a single/random call out of my @$$. Failed with 5-6 pre-order/ notification attempts. Ye old cutlery shop rocks!

Hi,

My apologies for the frustration. 1) employees are limited and most don't buy small runs and certainly not for resale. That is a fire-able offense.
2) We really had no idea that the Sprint would be in such high demand. Early complaints on the intro model has us in doubt. 3) we working on a follow up in Micarta, Green and Denim Blue, With Cruwear and another steel. We plan on larger numbers.

Sal, if Spyderco does a run in Blue Denim Micarta....That one will sell like hot potatoes!

I would suggest that medium blue color when blue jeans are starting to fade.

Agree with BIOG. While there are knives I would like to have this one, I have other priorities in my life and can't chase every sprint drop. Another great knife will always come along. Glad this was a hit for Spyderco and I appreciate Sal's response.

More micarta is always good. The 4V version is also compelling.
