One of my possum pals, never understood the stigma against them. As a kid I used to catch them by the tail to hold them and admire.

Easy to catch because they’re pretty slow and play dead once you circle them. They feel like a hard cat. Once, I caught a juvenile and instead of playing dead he climbed up his tail and bit me. He was well within his right, and I learned to only catch adults who’ve learned to play dead.

Just find an adult and run faster than a slow lawnmower. Circle it once and nudge it with your foot while it hisses like it’s mean. It will play dead and be safe to pick up by the tail to examine. Try to hold it closer to base, it’s more comfortable for them.
