Your EDC family, that is!

I have always been fascinated with what people carry as their EDC's. I'm sure that people carry what they carry for different reasons. Whether pure function, handle color, sentimental significance, legal requirement, or just because you like it, the reasons are many and varied.

For this giveaway, the only requirement is to share your EDC knives. No worries if you don't have pics of all of them, share what you got. If you have any reasons why you carry them, or cool stories behind them, even better! Traditionals only, please.

Here's what you are playing for. I modded this Streamline a little while back, but it's just sitting on the shelf, so I'd like to pass it along to someone who will appreciate it and get some use out of it. Who knows, maybe it will make it into your EDC rotation. It's not perfect, but at 70-80 years old, it will still serve you well.

So, I'll get things started. Most of the knives in my EDC rotation are knives that don't quite cut it in my collection.

First up, my cells. The two on the right are Imperials, the front left is a no name, and the whittler in the back is Valley Forge.

These pearls are both Schrade Cut Co's. The little guy has an obvious crack, the whittler is nice, although the main blade is short. Still a nice "fancy" carry.

These three are knives that I modded. The one on the right is a Camillus 72. The front one is an A Field & Co Progress whittler, a real favorite of mine. And of course the Norfolk, that one gets plenty of pocket time!

These three don't really get a whole lot of carry time, but I do like them. The Case in the back is worn out with no snap, but that bone! The one on the left has no tang stamp, but I'm pretty sure it's a Schrade. The Atco Italy in the front is a great pattern with nice brown bone.

The knife on the right is a Novelty knife whittler, it's one of my earlier mods. The one on the left is a Schrade Cut Co.

The knife on the left is a well worn Kutmaster barlow, a real tank. The knife on the right is a nicely patina'd Northfield.

I just like this last one a lot. Great old Remington. For me, the cool factor is off the charts.

So, that's what I carry. I know, how can I rotate so many knives? That's half the fun! Good luck to everyone!

This trio of 66s is mostly what I carry, although the moose is most definitely my favorite. I'm on a trip down to Tybee Island, and decided to bring the stockman because I sirens the lay amount of time with it.

This is an awesome GAW. Here are my EDC knives. I have many more in my collection, but these are the ones that have found their way in my pocket the most. As I've just newly discovered my love for traditionals, they are still new to the rotation but definitely a permanent addition! The whole theme that my wife and I love is the combination of modern and antique industrial items. For instance, we have a modern house, but our coffee table is a refinished 100+ year old factory cart from Alabama. It cost a small fortune in shipping to get it here, but it was definitely worth it. That Streamline would look awesome along side my new traditionals! :)

The S&M Gunstock is just new, but I love the feel and size. It is already in a sheath on my belt. I intend to use this at work.

The Queen I intend to use for food preparation at work. Since being diagnosed with diabetes, I prepare a salad with chicken for myself everyday and this is a perfect user knife for that purpose. Actually, being diagnosed with it has been a blessing in disguise. I completely changed my lifestyle and now feel better than I have in my entire life. I've also lost 60lbs in the past year. The Northfield is just something that feels comfortable to carry. I will likely switch between it and the S&M for a daily carry.

NOTE: I modified this as I had included a couple of pics of my non-traditional knives that I also EDC. I removed them to comply with the rules of the GAW. Sorry. My bad.

Thanks for the chance Glenn! I keep my users in the EDC box. Some of them rotate from time to time, that 15 you modified is back in the 15s box for safe keeping, since Bob sent me a nice modded 15. Gift from Randy that (saddlehorn) is in here as well, as well as knives purchased during my teenage years. 15s, 48s, 77, and 54s are some of my favorite GEC models, and all are represented here. Single blades is usually how I like em. Managed to score that modded 54 clip on SJP, definitely need to get one modded for the spear eventually.

That's a great looking Streamline. Thanks for the awesome Gaw.

I've carried each of these daily for months/a couple of years. The Craftsman9507 in my from left pocket and the Vic Farmer on my left hip.

I have no doubt I'd replace the Craftsman with your knife as an EDC.

That's a lovely knife Glenn :) Nice idea for a giveaway, it's good to see everyone's EDCs. I rarely let a day pass without posting in the EDC thread. I have a lot of knives, but I keep a fairly anonymous lacquered box on my living room coffee-table, in which I keep about 20 EDC knives. Every now and again, I take some out because they're not getting carried, and replace them with others from my collection. I tend to get fixated on a knife for a few knives for a while, and then something else comes along. I feel terribly guilty when I think about the great knives I've not carried for a while

There are always a few Lambsfoot knives in my EDC box, I think there are four currently. They're such great knives. I've certainly carried this A.Wright in Buffalo most this year.

Then there's my 'Abbeydale Jack', a surprise find, which I really love carrying.

Most of Stan Shaw's knives sit in safes and display cabinets, so I want to carry this Sheepsfoot.

This IXL Barlow was a gift from Charlie C :)

As was this TC, which is always in my EDC box.

My Radio Jack was a birthday present from ScruffUK, and a real favourite.

I really like this Needham NAAFI knife, a gift from Duncan a couple of years back, and that has recently gone back into my EDC box.

I'm sure any of us who post here have more knives than we need. And, even if we don't carry them, we probably thought we would or might when we acquired them. For me, there are aesthetic and practical (both user and monetary) reasons for buying a particular knife. Of course these are very elastic. That's why I have junk that I'm wouldn't use and pretty ones that get hard use. I think that's my definition of a knife knut.

These are in my current grab bag. Some get the bulk of the work and others less so. Some are in danger of being replaced, and others may make my hall of fame.
Thanks Glenn for the chance to add another to the team and all that you do for the community here. I think that a 70 year old Streamline would be a great companion as I reach 70 on my next birthday.

Have a bunch more but these ( 4 as of today) get 99% of the pocket time.
The Cadet in the back is ALWAYS in my pocket with my keys. It's my " oh I really shouldn't do this with a knife-knife" and "sure I do,use this-loaner" and probably most important " you don't have a pocket knife? Are you kidding me? Here hang on to this one"-knife

The Case medium jack I bought because it reminded me of my grandfathers " church knife" and I thought it would help me stop carrying the 65-69' 087 stockman that is exactly like my grandfathers church knife. He got his as a gift when his first grandchild(me) was born in late 65'. I carry it most days until I get nervous I'll lose it then I carry the jack until I feel guilty for not caring the stockman!
The Lick Creek #14 is new and it's probably going to my daughter, going to by a micarta version. Bought it thinking maybe I'll make it my most days. Knife and finally put the stockman in the collection box and move the jack to the dresser knife...

Well there you go, real long winded but that's why they are carried. Thanks for listening and the great GAW!

I'm in thanks Glenn. I carry a #h49 Queen hoof knife(best awl/punch for leather), LT Wright fixed on my hip, the new forum knife, and a farm&afield GEC #99, oh and a small locking canoe from AG Russell. Today. :) Somedays I'll sub in a case jack I love, or a wharncliffe copperlock, Dozier km-6. There are others I may come back and add :D.
Thanks Again, Neal
Ps-and I'm thinking about a Krein regrind for the Queen, with the D2 blade it might make a very good candidate for his regrinding. I'm just debating whether I want to lose the etch on the blade.

Thank you Glenn, very nice job on the knife your giving away, anyone would be happy with that one. I have a pile on the counter that are my EDC's, 3 old Barlows, a Case XX, a Case Tested and a Queen. One new Barlow, a Northfield and finally a Schrade Old Timer. All see pocket time depending on what I'm doing that day.

I need to stop popping in here. You guys' EDC rotation is to die for:) I always get such a kick listening to why people carry what they do.

I need to get a family picture of mine. Pretty much every one of my carry knives has a bit of special meaning for me.

Yesterday was a GEC that a forumite gifted me last year. It's Missouri Trader. Lockback, sporting a stainless blade, and handsome hunter green Micarta. It's a rugged knife that I feel walks the line of a very warm traditional in terms of lines and action yet is very pocket and sweat friendly in construction. I love it. It's what I carry when my wife forces me to "dress up". It also remains my nicest traditional folder. I'm rather proud of it and always gracious to Phil for sending to me out of the blue.

I also favor the simple Case medium Stockman in chestnut brown. My wife got it for me for Christmas 2 years ago when I started dabbling with slipjoints again. It's a great little carry knife. I like it because she picked out the pattern as well as the scale color. On top of that, the carbon steel blade has dulled to a gorgeous gray patina with mottled splotches of deep charcoal. I always think of her when I carry it. It's stained and a little rough around the edges from, but so am I;) It one of my favorite pocket knifes to carry around the yard. It's also the knife carry when I know I am going to be around people who are little leery of sharp and pointy things. The smaller Stockman just oozes the vibe of a cherished tool. When people see it, they don't see a weapon. Quite frankly, they might expect me to start whittling a corn cob pipe and calling them "sonny"...even if I am currently the ripe old age of 35.

For Father's Day a couple years ago my wife and daughter got me a Case Mini Trapper with red bone scales. I'm going to admit it, but the trapper pattern is not my favorite. Also, the red is a bit garish for my taste. However, my wife thought it would make a great work knife with it's fine clip point, and she is, as always, correct. My daughter was just a little thing at the time and picked out the color. She knows green is my favorite, but since they didn't have it in green she thought red would be OK since it is my second favorite color...it is not, I'm just always the "red guy" when we play Candyland as a family. My wife's favorite color is green too...so guess what guy she gets to be everytime;) So the Mini Trapper is Candyland Consolation Prize knife. I make it a point to use it when my daughter and I are bumming around. I like to thank her for it when I do use it. It shows her how much an appreciated gift can mean to someone. She just beams when I do...but it really is kind of an ugly knife. I'll probably be buried with it in my breast pocket.

Today I am actually carrying of my favorite workhorse folders. The Old Timer 80T was graciously passed to me during one of these contests last year. It's an 80's era specimen. The blades cut like lightsabers. All of them walk and talk in a way that is sadly rare in entry level slipjoints of today. I carry this knife for a couple of reasons: One, it was a wonderful gift. Two, it's a full size knife that is capable to handle the roles I will toss at it in my contracting line of work. Finally, my grandfather always carried a large Stockman when I was growing up. He never went anywhere without it (or a smaller Congress), and he was a surgeon with it (and kept it sharp as such). I can't tell you how many splinters his thick rough hands paired with that knife dug out of my fingers as a sprat. Today he's 90 years old. His strong hands are gone. His nails don't have the strength or integrity to defeat stout springs, and his eyes are bad enough that he probably can't see what he's cutting. However, I'll always remember the pattern as the knife my grandpa carried.

Thank you so much for the opportunity at that gorgeous Streamline!

There's some gorgeous EDCs being posted in here by everyone!

Over the past year, no knives of mine have received more pocket time than these 4.

lKBfvtK.jpg

The Buck 55, I've had the longest. Its design is timeless and what I instantly think of when I think "Traditional Knife".

The 25 rode alongside the 55 from February til about June. Still one of the best in-hand feeling knives out there. Incredibly capable for only 3".

The Bermuda Green Peanut was purchased the day before my daughter's birth, and I've carried all but a handful of days over the last 5 months.

The Black Cherry TC #14 is the newest of the bunch, but it has been in my pocket contantly. Literally, the only time that it is not in my pocket is when I sleep.

Thanks, again, Glenn for the opportunity!

Thanks for the chance Glenn. I'm one of those weirdos who only has 1 real EDC. This nice S&M sowbelly. I only very rarely carry something else, and it's only so I can show it off some to someone. This S&M is a real EDC, that gets used for anything and everything.

You might recognize my edc. It started life as a Camillus TL-29. Now it is what I consider to be the perfect pocket knife. Big enough to handle just about anything yet small and sleek enough to be carried easily. It's also very people friendly. I carry it proudly and have received several compliments on it.

I'm one who carries multiples, and rotates.

These are what I had at work recently.

I do switch up every week or so.

I jumped into traditionals and ordered thelse (and a few others) all at once. I have about 4 more from that batch. The SAK was a giveaway on here.

I carry the Sunfish and the stag gunboat a lot. They are easily openable with one hand.same for the grandad Barlow.

Here is what I had in the pocket today.

I'm not a collector but I do love the hobby and knives in general. Nearly all of my go out in public knives are small traditionals that are 3.25 to 3.5 inches closed.

In this space I try to explore different brands a few at a time. Right now I have a fascination with these two little guys.

Thanks for the gaw. I carry some scout patterns, new and old. Also various GEC's and alox Vics. Sundry others.

Glenn,
Thank you for the GAW. Here is a pic of my most recent EDC knife rotation, with the SAK and flashlight/sheath combo being the constant, and one of the knives on rotation every few days. Regards to all, Raul.
