Photos Sharing CRK Art - My CRK Collection

It was never meant to be a ship in the night...

But it was..... <sigh>

Just for the fun of it I took my pic of 100 CRK's all together, and marked through the ones that have moved on. I did the same thing a while back with the pic I took on my entire collection as of November 2012, there were very few remaining.

missing it huh? should have asked you again about this piece.. but the last time our conversation went, I was under the impression that this was never on the table... :(

It wasn't. It took a prybar, and wailing and gnashing of teeth.

That "owl" annual is really cool! i didnt see it until now. The owl is in the corner:)

I love that one because of that owl. Makes it so distinctive. When the great CRK selloff happens that'll probably be the last Annual I turn loose.

So...... I promised myself I wouldn't let my collection get back over 100, but......... When my current Inbounds get here, I'll be back at my previous high of 105 CRK's. :o I think it's time for Anne to send me a birthday card! :D

I got a offered a deal so sweet on this one that I insisted on paying more than the asking price. I know I've said that I prefer plain blades over damascus on my Mnandis (ROF excepted, of course!), but this one is a keeper! The wood definitely shows the green feathering that LV is famous there, and the contrast on the damascus is just Wow! And such a nice example of ladder... 👍 👍

Yeah, 2009 is covered in my collection, this pretty aint going nowhere! ;) :)

Glad you enjoy it so much! Your pics definitely show the grain quite well. Do you have 2 LV mnandis now?

Wow! That ladder pattern really stands out! Is there Renwax or something like that on the blade?

That blade would be High Contrast Damascus.. I believe they were the old type of SS Damascus that were used probably between 2005 to 2009? Not sure about the timeline.. I have 4 (now going 5) Damascus blades that are like these.

Also, I believe these Damascus blades were coated and has a light sheen on it. Not sure what the coating is though..

I have noticed that some of my Damascus blades had more of a contrast than others. I thought this was just the difference between "batches" of the steel blanks.
Do you think that this older high contrast Damascus has a higher carbon content and therefore higher contrast and the need for the blade to be coated?
I do know that there is great variability in the corrosion resistance (and I think then the carbon content) of different types of stainless steel.
Never really thought about it... till you wiser "older" BF experts pointed it out!
You live and learn... Just keep livin!
