Sharp out of the box???

My recent hap40 Stretch is possibly the sharpest knife oob I ve ever experienced as tested by push cutting paper, followed closely by my hap40 Endura. The edge on my just received cts 204p Military was very well finished, but not quite as refined as the two mentioned above.
Just my most recent purchases. I long ago quit trying to shave hair because I would run out of places to shave.:)

Agreed the freaking thing should cut ....
But alas some people definition of sharp is just a shiny polished edge.

I'm in the boat of a maker or co. Gets kudos for being sharp
But I hand sharpen as well (haven't found a good deal on a wicked edge )

So I'm not too worried but very unsatisfactory when you buy a knife and can't use it outa the box like a sure fire :)

Thanks for many comments on this thread!
Very interesting.

It seems like that some take a good edge OOB as a bonus, while some others see it necessary, particularly for high-end knives.

I don’t really care the OOB edge myself because I prefer to put my own edge anyway.
I am more annoyed by the heat damage on the edge from grind sharpening, which makes me to remove a lot of metal from the blade.

HSC/// introduced me an interesting thread regarding this.

There is a discussion in this thread that Randall knives are hand-sharpened and therefore free from the heat damage.
I wish many other manufacturers do this practice or even avoid sharpening.
