Photos SharpByCoop's Gallery of Handmade Knives

ok, it's over, i'm packin' it in. i've only just seen this thread and now i'm sure of two things:

1.) given a hundred years i'll never match the skill i've seen in most of these pieces and

2.) i'll never find an original knife idea floating around in my head again. i've now seen too much of others' ingenuity.

thanks you guys :D

Lastly a few who's work you've seen posted individually, but deserve to reside here in the 'library'.

I'm Drooling...., what can I say? The first Ron Best dagger/folder shown is simply stunning to me. Its... perfect?

That Ron Best fellow makes one heck of a knife, especially the "Isis" folders are real nice.:thumbup:

GREAT pictures as always Coop.

I couldn't pick ONE favorite as the diversity and styles are immense.

I read recently that Ron Best admires Wolfgang Loerchner's work and you can see the influence in the folding daggers.

That Cigar cutter is just COOL!

Thanks,
Peter

I really loved these, Coop. "Un-ornate" they may be, but you
made them jump out of the page asking for much more
than a second and third look....

All the best,

Like you, David, I am surrounded by exquisite beauty in knives often. It's great to enjoy beauty in smooth shapes, inexpensive materials, and simpler lines.

Those knives actually look like I could use them! :p ;)

Now that the respective owners have provided singular threads, I can chronicle them in here, too. :D

Hello,
I looked through the list for a knife maker and didn't see the name. I recently was given a knife by a friend. I tried to find the maker on line with no success. Does anyone know of a knife maker by the name of R J Switzer. I can add some photos later if needed. Seems like a hefty well made knife but I don't know anything about it. Thanks

Hey Coop. I have questions for you about this one. I suppose other people that know may chime in as well.

I love the piece, but I am wondering about the tip protector. Was this just by design? Seems to me that the whole scale/handle could have been extended to enclose the tip like most other folders. OR, is there some other function to the tip protector?

When I first saw that little nub, I thought it was actually a flipper.

I've spoken with Dick several times - great guy, btw. I certainly can't speak unequivocally regarding this piece, but I'd venture to guess that NOTHING in one of Dick's designs was unintended.

this thread is such an inspiration!
Thanks Coop for posting all those pics
Hi Tanya and Todd. :) Thanks for the props!

Never heard of him. Wrong place to ask. Ask in Bernard Levine's forum here on BF?

Matt's on the money. I had shot this piece a couple of years ago for Dick, and he studied it and determined that the shape of the handle prevented the blade from being longer. So, he incorporated the cool tip protector into his backlock, and forged/ground a new longer blade to match.

Outstanding photography and Gorgeous knives !
Thank you BOTH!

When the premier maker of Art knives in our era calls to ask me if I have time to shoot a couple of knives before they go to Solvang, I stop in my tracks and take care of biz. :D
