Photos SharpByCoop's Gallery of Handmade Knives

I've shot a bunch of Loveless inspired pieces lately. All of them gratifying, all of them different while similar. ;)

I'm going to mix it up and toss in Brent Beshara's renowned fighter. It's seeing current action by Canadian forces.

Speaking of daggers, Charles Vestal had a client who asked Jeff Parke to create this 'key piercing' engraved piece. Study it closely. :)

You saw this one before in my ECCKS separate thread. I spent time making it simpler.

Don Fogg doesn't make many knives, and even less swords. However, when he does, they are spectacular.
orig.jpg

Mark Knapp has advanced his skills to make folders. Rich materials all around.

Speaking of spectacular, I have to say these small utility knives from Russian makers Sergei Bobkov and Konstantin Pushkarev are as fine as I've ever handled.

Here's a set of three knives which came from one VERY astute collector. See why:

Don Hanson, MS

Rodrigo Sfreddo, MS

This one floored me. The Russian makers have incredible skills. The bamboo guard, 'wrapped' handle, and the warriors are all so well sculpted.

Closing with a familiar name and build, yet with a new blade style. Another prominent BF collector is enjoying this piece by Ron Best.

Again some really great looking knives very well presented with your excellent photographs. Love the Fogg, Sfreddo and those Russians.

Thanks for the show, I always look forward to your updates. I always smile when I see a Hanson. Love the Fogg sword.

Your photography just gets better and better along with the artistry of the blade smiths. I like the classics as beautiful as they all are, my vote goes to the Goshovskyy knives.

Here we go. Most seen already, but added here for posterity.

Stand clear for takeoff.... :)

Ron Best sends me every single spec knife he makes, then sells it within days of showing it off. A remarkable business model.

I rarely get tacticals, and wish I'd do more of Kirby Lambert's work. Sweet. This will be offered on the KnifeRights.org summer fundraiser.

The Kyle Hanson small utility (shown previously) is featured on the back page of Blade this month. He's a star! Here's another you may have seen:

What can you say? A classic DH3 in every regard. Highly recommended.

Anders Hogstrom: THIS lovely dagger took three months to get to me. It was one of the earliest to be snagged by the US Customs for ivory compliance. However, due to the vigilance and extra effort by many of YOU viewers, they dropped their guard and sent it to me. The war isn't over, but this battle was won. :)

I had not met Matt Parkinson until yesterday. He lives about an hour from me in Wolcott, CT. He travelled down yesterday with a boatload of cutlery and we worked together getting these done.

He's a versatile and talented blade smith. Kitchen knives:

Lastly this wonderful set of partial integrals. I like his flowing and graceful filework.

Matt liked viewing my Hill Pearce pieces and was wowed by the majestic ones.

However, Hill told me he made regular 'Cowboy Bowie' knives for the reenactment crowd. They were not meant to be glorious, and served well. This one had surfaced on eBay a few times and finally the price was right where I wanted it to be. ($150!!!) This one had a sheath which was created just for it by someone else.

Thanks for viewing.

The Four Aces are nice with a fair bit of "Pearce-look". Congrats on the cowboy bowie......a Pearce is a Pearce!!

Hi friends,

If you are traveling to the Blade Show, we're also preparing for a BIG weekend, just as you are!

We can't undervalue the importance of having a professional photograph of your work. For your personal portfolio, website exposure, future sales, aftermarket, and social promotion, there is little substitute for a quality image of your handmade work.

Allow us to work with you within the weekend. Our staff will advise, write-up and schedule your work. We'll pick it up when we're ready and drop it off once done, maximizing the display time on your table.

Since 2007 we've set up in Boardroom #1 by the seminar rooms. My wife Susan, and my assistants: Maggie Randall and professional photographer Buddy Thomason will all be there to assist us.

Our unchanged pricing and infosheets (for publications and editors) are clearly indicated, and you may get a headstart on the process by downloading and printing a PDF copy from this SAFE link:

Download: Blade2014_infosheet.pdf

The SharpByCoop Website Gallery is always ready, searchable by maker's name. Click the magnifying glass and view YOUR favorites, or just browse the incredible artistry throughout.

We will post your work on Bladeforums, and on the SharpByCoop Photography Facebook page.

We always look forward to working with you!

Appreciatively,

Jim Cooper & SharpByCoop Team @ Blade

This went out to over 500 of my clients via an email marketing company. I didn't want to send out this many from my local ISP, or my website host because they would freeze my account for 'spamming'.

You can bet we'll be busy before, during, and after. I regret I will not be able to converse with every person who comes by. I'm simply too busy shooting.

As always, I'll be posting the work as I get it done.

Reminder: Both Point Seven and myself pay a large fee to host studios there. Thank you for supporting us.

Thanks for checking back in. It's been just over a month since ^^^ this last post, and what a month!

Here's a LONG and tasteful look at the work which was done from this show: Knives of the Blade Show 2014 • Raising the Bar! I am indebted to my wife Susan, my sincere friend and peer Buddy Thomason, and to our cheerful and exemplary assistant Maggie Randall for our success.

I used the word 'work'. It is. Still, one of the most important things in life is to ENJOY doing what you love. "If you enjoy what you do, you'll never work a day in your life"

This said, the editing, the proofs emailed back and forth, the finalization, the prints finishing** and labeling mailers, and finally submitting ALL of the images from this show (and work prior) to EIGHT editors of US and international publications. Process: on the back of a 12-to-a-page contact sheet is a scanned image of the info sheet which was filled out from the makers, or text from my online 'Publication info' form on my website. I send in MANY contact sheets at once.

It's the hardest working month for me. So glad it's finished. **Printer woes: my seven year old quality Epson 3800 gave me twenty quality prints and then it died. It took a week of trials and potential rebuilding before I submitted to simply purchasing a brand new Epson 3880 from B&H Photo. This delayed the deliveries and cost me time and another printer, but now I'm good for ANOTHER seven years! :) I kept clients abreast of the dilemma, and had no issues.

Nice to get back into the swing of the studio work, and I have plenty of images which ought to be seen--many of them again.

Wait for it....

Here are images which were done just before Blade and/or were posted by their own makers, or never even seen.
