• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Sharpening Challenge

I'm just a sing a Norton Economy stone lately. So I use the coarse side for shaping, then the fine side for deburring and sharpening. I used the same stone for both when I was working on coarse edges, a 220 grit waterstone and when using the 1K waterstone.

Insulting or no.. I kinda agree with JR88FAN. My own initial thought was something along the lines of "Only if you're into S&M and self-abuse...." I question if it would be a matter of skill as much as a matter of patience. JMHO, I hate Arkansas stones (and I'm FROM Arkansas!)

That's fine, its the internet.

So far, the challenge has really helped me grasp more sharpening concepts that I was not aware of or just not taking advantage of such as cutting and minimizing burr formation. Changes in pressure. Edge leading vs trailing etc.

I've really relied on higher grits and pulling through soft woods.

For my keenest edges.

While I'm unable to perform the challenge currently it has definitely uped my game with other mediums by helping me master concepts.

Thanks
