Sharpening on vacation

Does anyone take a sharpening system on vacation? Or do you know use the knife enough to have to sharpen it?

I have only ever brought a sharpener on the road when hunting, for a vacation I don’t think it would be necessary.

I usually just use my 14" F. Dick honesteel. It's put the edge back on everything from crap steel; to S110V.

Depends where I am going and what I am doing. I normally have a small steel, a small hone (for cleaning up damage) and a strop in my gear when I am on a hunting trip. While I was in New Zealand and Africa on longer remote trips it was just the strop.

The wife and I went to Vegas for 4 days last July. Brought Buck 303, SAK Compact and EnZo 70. 5 edges, didn't even think about sharpening.😳

A whole sharpening system? Uh, no, I want to have fun on vacation. I just take a little pocket hone.

I’ve taken the Sharpmaker (if that’s considered a system) on hunting trips but it stays home if I’m doing a “normal“ style vacation. It’s nice it packs down small and easy.

No sharpener for me. For a week vacation I would normally take 2 or 3 folders just to have some variety and a medium size fixed blade, normally either a BK16 or a BHK Pitbull.

My wife would probably divorce me if I pulled out the KME on a family vacation 😆

My daily carry is always a SAK and a small fixed blade along with a DMT fine grit credit card stone in my wallet. So I’m always good to go. When traveling we always take my truck, so we have my emergency bag that has other knives and sharpening stuff in it.

Dangit. I should not have clicked on that link. Now I want one.
I will be getting several more stones from there. I got an American Mutt bench stone on a whim, which is recycled grit and supposedly finicky to maintain by virtue of its uncommon recycled composition, but I’ve had really good experiences so far.

Next I want the field stone, and matching manticore and arctic fox bench stones.

FortyTwoBlades FortyTwoBlades is there a ‘tweener grit in bench stones?
