I keep one in my truck, it’s too easy and portable not to carry one with me.I’ve taken the Sharpmaker (if that’s considered a system) on hunting trips but it stays home if I’m doing a “normal“ style vacation. It’s nice it packs down small and easy.
in case I can’t find that perfect river rock.
It’s a fun experiment. I’ve put some good edges on wood turning tools as well as all my mother’s horribly abused kitchen knives using only that stone. The Mutt DOES look interesting.
Hardly a super steel these days, but I can confirm it’s very effective on S35VN. I’m not sure what some of the more… sophisticated… steels would be like.Another vote for a pocket stone from baryonyx, unless you're packing a super steel. Then a diafold would probably be the best bet.
FortyTwoBlades is there a ‘tweener grit in bench stones?
Yeah you got it- between arctic fox and manticore. Good info- thank you!Between what? We'll have the Bull Thistle series available in bench stone format eventually, just haven't gotten around to it yet among other projects.
I've used the artic fox on up to s45vn, and it's fine. I sharpened a Spyderco in s90v a few weeks ago and I'd definitely rather use a diamond plate.Hardly a super steel these days, but I can confirm it’s very effective on S35VN. Last beach house I was at the kitchen knives were laughably dull. I used the bottom of a coffee mug to sharpen one up. It's not ideal but it works.
