Sharpening system: Lansky Deluxe 5 stone or Edge Pro Chinese clone ???

On the Apex Pro, it is the pivot block that moves up and down so you put stone above the stop (between the stop collar and the pivot block).
With the Ruixin, the pivot block is fixed on top of the rod and the whole rod moves up and down so you use the base as reference and place the stone below the stop collar.

Place the first stone you use on top of the base and than fix the stop collar so it rests on top of the stone.
For other stones you than raise or lower the rod so the collar again rests on top of the stone.

Here is a photo of my Ruixin as it is now, also modified with a ball joint rod end which is a lot more precise.

Frans,

I'm digging the ball joint modification you've done. Can you provide any details one that? Does the rod move smoothly through the joint, where did you source it, etc.

Thanks!

Hi Paul,

It is an 8mm female heim joint which I bought at a local hardware store here in the Netherlands and the rod moves smoothly through the joint.
It should not be too hard to find them in the US but they are also available on eBay if you search for: 8mm Female Thread Rod End.

Funny enough, I can not find 8 mm rods that would go with these rod ends but I probably use the wrong search expression so let me know what the proper English description for these would be.

I need more details on this mod! I can get the part, but how did you make the mod?

You just need a length of 8mm steel rod, and the ability to cut a thread into the end of it. I found 150mm long enough, in fact I ended up cutting a bit off, however that will depend on the length of your ball joint and how you mount the base. I went for a fixed angle base as the sucker didn't work for me.
