IMO, yes...assuming you concentrate on keeping the bevel flat, rather than the spine straight up and down. That can be misleading. When I first started using the Sharpmaker, I watched the video, and read the instructions, but all I really retained was-keep the spine perpendicular to the base. Wondered why my knives weren't getting sharp at the tip. After watching the edge move down the stone like I described, I realized that keeping the spine perpendicular was not following the original bevel, and I wasn't even touching the actual edge at the tip.Originally posted by kutch133
Owen, so if I rotate my wrist upward, as I have been doing, I'll remain truer to the original grind without sacrificing the tip.
I'm no sharpening expert, either, but I use knives alot, and sharpen alot. Get lots of practice, and am still learning, and trying new stuff all the time. Thinking of getting a decent belt grinder to try out, next
