What type of sharpener do you all use on your Beckers?

I own one of those cheap Smith sharpeners made out of yellow plastic but I feel like it messes up my blades and doesn't leave it them all that sharp. Can you guys recommend anything that's not too expensive? I was just going to get a diamond rod. Getting geared up for this little BK11 !

Stripped! Patina! Wrapped! And Sharpened!

get a medium/fine norton india stone and a strop with some black and green compound and you'll be good.

Now, I'm a total amateur, but I use my Lansky system on my BK-14. I use the 25 degree angle, and I am able to get it shaving sharp. After that I use a small steel and a stone for touchups until it really needs a good sharpening again. Then I go back to the Lansky. But like I said, I'm an amateur. Listen to the guys around here who know more than me.

I got a smith's as my first sharpening system and that thing sucks. I use a lanskey now and I get much better results. If you take your time and pay attention, that will work great.

Send them to Richard J! He does an awesome job and hes very reasonable!!

I would advise this as well, Richard is a stand up guy

I love it when he calls me out of the blue! He has taught me all I know about sharpening convex edges as well. Basically, you get more of a service than just having it sharpened; you gain knowledge from a man whom takes pride in his work and, if I may say so, a new friend.

I now use sandpaper and a mousepad alongside other methods that Richard has suggested and is experimenting with himself. I would really suggest this route sometime in the future, you will not ever regret it.

I use a cheap king waterstone. Gets muddier than and India stone or more expensive waterstone but it gets em sharp nonetheless

KME sharpeners. Best guide system around.

Made in the USA 100% and for a fairly reasonable price. Sharpens everything from 2" blade to a 9" blade. I been using it for a year, and I won't have anything else.

I also have a myriad of Norton stones as well, but he KME gets used so much more.

Ditto, my Lanskys works fine for a this beginner to learn some concepts.

KME blows Lansky out of the water. And after I heard where and how Lansky got started, I got rid of all my Lansky stuff, and moved on. Its not important, but there are better products out there.

Thanks guys.

I'm going to see what Gander mountain has. I guess at minimum I should be looking for a stone or rod system, not some sort of mechanism to just pull the knife through.

Dont buy the little hand held things you pull the knife through. They suck. I have several.

The Beard has the right idea. Pull throughs are good for an expedient field edge, but its one step down from a feral stone.

I think I might pick the stone in all seriousness. They are garbage, or at least the smith's one I have is. I use some old stones I got from my grandpa and a strop. Works great so far.

Yeah, that's why I said a step down from feral stones. Given my druthers, I would take the feral stone everytime.
