I would also have to agree with the original poster that Microtech produces some of the sharpest knives from the factory. I have a LUDT in S35VN and that thing was crazy sharp out of the box. Better yet, it holds the edge incredibly well!
My Benchmade Emerson Combat Folder in ATS-34 with a chisel ground edge was also insanely sharp. I found out the hard way when I cut myself with that one.
I have owned many different knives and pretty much all of them come nice and sharp out of the factory. Microtech still gets the nod though in my opinion. Other knives include Benchmade, Cold Steel, Chris Reeves, Zero Tolerance, Spyderco, Kershaw, Gerber, DPX Extreme, and CRKT.
Out of the knives mentioned above, I'd say that Zero Tolerance was rather disappointing. I had a 560 in Elmax and the factory edge was okay at best. What is worse is that the knife did not hold its edge that well. I sharpened it up pretty well using an Apex Edge Pro, but the edge holding ability was still very disappointing. I also bought a 560 CBCF with the sintered S110V steel. I am also disappointed with the factory edge, which sucks since S110V is supposed to be pretty hard to sharpen.
