Sharpest knife ever...

I would also have to agree with the original poster that Microtech produces some of the sharpest knives from the factory. I have a LUDT in S35VN and that thing was crazy sharp out of the box. Better yet, it holds the edge incredibly well!

My Benchmade Emerson Combat Folder in ATS-34 with a chisel ground edge was also insanely sharp. I found out the hard way when I cut myself with that one.

I have owned many different knives and pretty much all of them come nice and sharp out of the factory. Microtech still gets the nod though in my opinion. Other knives include Benchmade, Cold Steel, Chris Reeves, Zero Tolerance, Spyderco, Kershaw, Gerber, DPX Extreme, and CRKT.

Out of the knives mentioned above, I'd say that Zero Tolerance was rather disappointing. I had a 560 in Elmax and the factory edge was okay at best. What is worse is that the knife did not hold its edge that well. I sharpened it up pretty well using an Apex Edge Pro, but the edge holding ability was still very disappointing. I also bought a 560 CBCF with the sintered S110V steel. I am also disappointed with the factory edge, which sucks since S110V is supposed to be pretty hard to sharpen.

My has to be my Spyderco Stretch 2 in Carbon fiber and zdp-189, 3 people have cut themselves on it, i got it as a collector to add to my stash and it comes out to show people and they just seem to keep getting cut on it lol

Ironically, the sharpest knife I can lay hands on at the moment is an old kitchen knife that I sharpened myself. I brushed my finger against the edge by accident and it shaved a small lump of my fingerprint away.

For folders, my Rockstead Chi.
It came way sharper than any other folder I've experienced.

The 5 dollar retractable razor knife i bought from lowes is the sharpest knife i ever bought...

my mora 223 .. didnt notice Id cut my finger till I felt the blade skip along the bone a little
Id been working with it for a while when someone yelled and I looked away .. then that nasty oh crap feeling ...

My CRK Large Micarta 21. Runners up would be an Emerson CQC-8, and Spyderco M390 military.

Sharpest out of the box: Spyderco Caly 3.5 (ZDP-189) and Mora Companion. Hair whittling sharp!

Sharpest after a little work: CRK Sebenza 21 CF.

Navaja Gabacha from Pallares. X65 carbon steel, complete zero ground. Whittled hair out of the box. And all that for 9 €.

Morakniv classic Original N°1 and N°2 (laminated steel) : both with perfect edge out of the box, hair shaving sharp. Same for my Helle Lapplander (12c27) : convex edge but nothing left to fiddle about.

SHUN birds beak paring knife was crazy sharp out the box. In-fact every Shun I have gotten was very sharp.

My sharpest ootb was an Endura 4. Stropped it and it whittled hair
next was a BM 586

After lapping the back on an UF Spyderco benchstone -- and stropping on leather with .5 micron DMT diamond paste -- my Tanaka Kurouchi Deba in Blue #2 is an enormous hair-whittling beast.

Out of the box -- the surgical prep blades at CountyComm are absolutely ferocious. Everybody raves about them if they get their hands on one.

CS Recon 1. Just wicked sharp out of the box.

Anything in ZDP-189 steel from Spyderco comes wicked sharp, IME
From the factory, my caly 3 (zdp) is what I spired me to learn more about sharpening, since it was miles sharper than anything I had.

Sharpest after sharpening are my white steel (budget) kitchen knives.
