Sharpest KNIFE out of the box

It's not even a knife that cuts very well, but the sharpest knife I've ever had straight out of the box is a Medford 187 RMP. I think Medford is a twit and his knives are silly, but I have to admit that thing had a screaming sharp, hair-splitting crazy-sharp edge on it out of the box.

That said, it doesn't matter much how sharp knives are brand new, if you use them you'll be sharpening them yourself to your own standards anyway, no?

My recently received Christmas present my wife bought me was a cold steel code 4 clip point plain edge in cts-xhp. Wow!!

Spyderco Hap40 Stretch.

I can easily say this is also one of the sharpest out of the box as well. As I was holding it in my hand as I read this.

It's all so hard to say what is exactly the sharpest because I usually only get a new knife every other month or so. I've had several from notable brands that would shave out of the box but some from those same companies that wouldn't slice paper

For me it was my Mcusta Yoroi hands down. The two Mcustas I bought have been absolute laser beams out of the box. I don't know what they're doing over at Machine Customs but they got some magic stones down there.

I honestly don't know if the ultra fine Spyderco rod did anything to that edge.

On another note my Hogue Ex01 and Ex04s all came with beatiful perfect mirror edge. Beautiful and perfect.

Pretty sure most of the Cold steels i've bought in the last year were the sharpest out of the box not counting customs.

Pretty much anything for Seki City (Japan).

That said I have been looking for a vid on YouTube that I saw on my exact knife but have not been able to find it again. I bought the knife then saw the vid. I have to agree with the guy.

It is the little brother of the knife in the vid below. My knife is in the photo bellow that. I call it "My Little Monster" I have actually considered making a sheath for it and just EDCing it. Actually it is not the best all around blade shape; it is best used with a cutting board but . . . man what it won't do !

OK . . . you see the person slicing news paper in this vid. The vid I saw the guy says "Everybody cuts a sheet of paper . . . I want to show you what this knife can REALLY do !" And he proceeds to cut an entire clay coated product catalogue in half with one stroke. No not just the corner. Whoa ! Yah. Serious, serious cutting tool. Frightening.
I love 'em.
If I find that vid I will post it.

PS:
aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh !
Here it is ! I forgot I put it in my old post about this knife. Gird your loins . . .

I have been a benchmade nut for years, and especially the griptillians. They come out of the box crazy sharp, and I've had good luck with them holding that edge for a while before needing to be sharpened
That being said, the Fox 479 kryptek I just got put them to shame, at least right out of the box, anyway. I felt the edge of it with my finger with almost no pressure and am now minus that finger print! I drug it across my arm, and it was like a freshly sharped straight razor. And the point is the same kind of sharp.

Every knife I've ever bought new wasn't up to my standards of sharp, if it won't tree top and push cut phonebook paper effortlessly it isn't sharp. That said I'd have to say on average spydercos are pretty damn sharp.

Mora for the win.

Mora knives generally don't come in boxes, and with many under $20 it makes you wonder why all these stupid expensive and trendy "super duper wazooie steel" knives need at least a stropping out of the box.

I have an early 1990's Cutlery Shoppe Gerber Mark II Wasp that came from the factory amazingly razor sharp, more so than any other Gerber I own. Probably my second sharpest knife from the factory is a Pacific Cutlery Fer De Lance, it is wicked sharp as well.
