Shave of the day?

No one has posted here for some time now so I figured I would bring it back to the top. I didn't have time to take a picture of the set up, but it was still in fine shave

Preshave:Hot shower
Brush: Omega converted SilverTip Badger
Soap: Proraso Green
Razor: 1940s Super Speed
Blade: Israili Persona Red
Aftershave: Old Spice Splash

I have been using my more aggressive razors as of late, but for a change I grabbed the Super Speed today. I often forget what a wonderful little razor this is, mild yet it shaves extremely close with no effort. When I get home from all the running around I have to do today I will try to remember to snap a picture or two to add to this post

Shower
Shave Secret as a pre oil
Col Conk bay rum
hot pewter footed bowl for whipping
Tweezerman badger brush
Edwin Jagger DE
Astra blade (fresh)
Cold water rinse
Thayer's Witch Hazel rose (little strong but nice)
Lubriderm 3 in 1 unscented balm.

Just rocked a post work 60's Gillette adjustable, Persona red, Taylor's lemon lime. and Ogallala bay rum shave. Felt great! I was a day behind shaving

I need some advice::eek:

I thought I liked aggressive razors, but the Muehle R41 Open comb I bought recently is on an attack-dog level. I feel I'm reasonably experienced DE shaver but I can't find a blade suitable for this brute. Feather, my favourite, leads to a blood bath. Bic slightly better, Derby was the worst, not close but plenty of nicks. Merkur are rubbish blades, end. I do have another Open Comb so I feel I know how to handle it. Lather is the same as my other shaves etc.

Any other blade suggestions? Or advice?

Many thanks, Will

Your not the only one having this problem with the R41,

I haven't tried it and don't really have the urge to, so I don't know what to suggest. Maybe a very mild blade, but I find that a mild blade in an aggressive razor makes for a bad shave too.

I got a bad blade that made my face look like that last week. It was the first shave on a Feather out of the middle of the pack, so it wasn't because I was switching brands. Made me think I forgot how to use a DE overnight. Being Polish, I was to stubborn to switch blades when I first noticed and paid for it...:D

U_G Thanks for posting that vid. No wonder I'm having problems if he can't handle it!:D

I don't dare any AGTG with this thing. Your can HEAR the blade flex and slice into the bristles..
True, it has excellent finish (although the handle is tubular not solid so it's not that weighty, probably a good thing...) but I'm not sure it can be used in practice. So, watch out if any of you out there are contemplating buying this. It takes exfoliation very seriously, to the bone:barf:

Yours blooded, Will

Here's what I've been using lately:

Pre shave- Just a warm shower or warm wash cloth on my face for a bit.
Shaving cream- Art of Shaving sandalwood. Very light scent and lathers up very nicely.
Shaver: Not actually sure about this. It was a gift from my girlfriend's brother. Anyone know?
Brush: A vulfix badger, not sure about specifics on this one either.
Razors: Shark super chrome.
Post: Witch hazel followed by Aloe Vera.

And today's fragrance was Dolce & Gabbana's The One.

Nice set-up there.

The razor looks like a Merkur Barber Pole to me.

I find the Vulfix badger I have to be a very good brush, good value indeed.

hi Will,

my first razor is R41, first shave...bloodbath. :D
but now I like it a lot, and can get a very fine shave with feather, astra and personna platinum.
I found that R41 have a very different angle setting, I found this pic when I'm browsing around learning to handle it.

and with this razor, of course, zero pressure.
my other open comb is a vintage gillette new, very forgiving, close comfortable shave.
I used them both in my rotation. the R41 is for those weekend, no rush, zen state, shaving condition :D

have a nice shave,
falah

Preshave:Hot shower, Jojoba oil
Brush: Simpson Chubby "3" Best Badger
Soap: Pre De Provence shave soap
Razor: Muhle R89
Blade: Feather

I love this soap! I picked it up yesterday and it lathers up quite well. A triple milled soap, it lathers thick and slick. No aftershave because I like the scent of this soap.

Pre: shower and l'occitane oil
Brush: AOS
Cream: Taylor of old bond street avocado
Razor: Merkur 34c
Blade: Feather
After: Burberry London

Hello Falah, Thanks for sharing your advice and for the video link. His stuff is very interesting indeed. I like that bowl you show in your last post too. Time to give the R41 another trial......

Today:
Hot flannel
Taylor of Old Bond St. 'Eton College' cream
Vulfix Badger
Brand new Feather
Merkur 34
Cold water followed by L'Occitane Baux after shave balm
VERY good result.

Regards to all, Will

Completed my first DE shave this morning. No blood so I figure thats a success. I picked up some CVS blades, cheap brush and Williams Mug Shaving Soap last night. I did 2 - WTG today, going to stick to that for the month of June to get my face used to shaving again. I've had a full beard for the last 5 years, decided it was time for a change. My razor is a '65 Lady Gillette with gold stars and handle, I know it's a girls razor but it was free and in great shape. I'm going to replace it with a new 2 or 3 piece someday, I prefer the easier cleaning and mechanically simpler design.

Pre: shower
Brush: cheap one from CVS
Cream: Williams Mug Shaving Soap
Razor: '65 Lady Gillette
Blade: CVS - American Safety Razor
After: Cold Water

Hope things are well,
Cory

The Ladies Gillette has the same head as a Super Speed, only the handle is different, besides over on Badger and Blade there are quite a few men that shave with the Ladies Gillette razors

I'm glad I'm not the only "REAL" man using a ladies razor. After having a beard for 5 years, it's strange even thinking about razors and shaving cream again. Looking forward to tomorrow morning for another shave, I think the WS/DE bug has bitten me bad.
