Shaving Sharp Buck Knives....Literally!

Good job Chris, not many guys can achieve face shaving results. Don't get it too sharp cause you know women and razors...:p Your knives will end up missing!

Hahaha, luckily my gal has very little interest in any knives other than kitchen cutlery :)

I found that to shave, it needs to be sharp, but also the angle you hold the blade at is vital.
It seems a steeper angle works.much better than a shallow angle.
And beard hair does need a sharper edge than arm or leg hair.

This one is for oregon :)
If you send me a razor sharp knife, I might just shave with it ;)

Brand spanking new 424 Buck shaving razor :)

Before

During

After :)

Here is my new to me 277 Alpha Folder in ATS-34
I had to completely rehabilitate the edge. It had a big chip near the choil and numerous small nicks.....

Shaving sharp now :)

From this

To this :)

You are shaving off of a 1000 grit stone? I knew it, you have leather skin! Hahaha. I don't even touch a blade to my face until I've gone through to my 12000 Chinese stone. I have got to get on the buck shaving wagon. Maybe we can talk Mr. Houser into a special run of Buck straight razors? That would be my dream come true.
Oh, and my wade and butcher straight belonged to my great-great grandfather. I doubt it made it out west. :)

Yeah, my skin is not "delicate" ....lol

WOW! That is awesome that you have something from your great great grandfather, and a razor that you use makes it even better.
My dad has a Scottish Dirk that has been in the family for 500 years or so, he says I will inherit it someday :)
But I may have to fight my younger brothers off when the time comes....hahahaha

A buck straight razor would be freaking sweet!

The advantage of the Vantage?
Umm......you can shave with it, right out of the box :D

Here is my next installment of shaving fun.

Vantage 345 in 420HC factory edge. Bought it this afternoon, and shaved with it this evening :)
The blade shape is quite nice for a shave, and this one may be second best ony to the CSAR-T fixed for out of box ease of face fur removal :o

Mid-shave to show hair length

Out of the box, and task #1 accomplished

This one is for Oregon :)

The 830 Marksman, which hit the mark for a clean shave :D

Brand Spanking New Factory Edge in 154CM
This one came "super freaky hair popping sharp" :)

(Yes, a tiny bit of blood up in the sideburn area  )

I am happy that you got your 830. Excellent folder isn't it. Carry mine everyday.

Thank you for showing both sides of your face so I can keep an accurate ear count for you! :)

My lovely wife adores the glass work you magiced up for her. You know, she used one of the knitting needles to hold her long hair in a bunch on the back of her head. She loves it for that use and she couldn't be more happy with what you did for her. Thank you for your generosity and artistic craftsmanship. Very cool.

I like this new 830 a ton! It has been with me ever since the mail carrier handed me the box!
I picked up a Vantage Select the day before it arrived, and I have been carrying it too...lol
It is fun to compare the 2, so similar, yet so very different!

Yes, both ears still Intact :D

Next, I am contemplating testing my Buck Chef Knife as a shaving tool.
But I need to wait for the facial hair to grow back from that smooth Marksman shave :)

Tell Cindy it was my pleasure, and that I am glad she likes them!
Funny! Crochet hook hair stick :) I make some fancy glass hair sticks, remind me next time we do a mailing scenario ;)

Repeat of knife type....... CSAR-T fixed blade gave me a nice smooth shave today :)

Partway through the shave

All done :)

Not much is more satisfying than shaving with a knife :D

I suggest we all chip in and get you a No! No! hair remover....LOL On second thought maybe a D.R. Brush Cutter Chris....LOL

See what those No! No! users are missing.....Chris got it right and its allot cheaper!!!! damn blades cost like $20.00 for 10 blades now......   up Chris!

It was funny, I told my gal I needed some more razors soon..... but in the meantime I would just shave with one of my knives.
She laughed :D

I just decided store bought blades are to expensive! so I'm growing a Robertson DUCK DYNASTY like beard....LOL Believe it or not some of the womens leg shavers the [cheap] throw aways are better than the mens highly expensive ones......they are translucent pink or yellow with a oval shape like stone shape on the bottom of the handle, she got them at the grocery store. They last longer than the major brand names for men too......But heck I'm thinking of going back to the the old #1 blade shavers. that you twist to open an insert double sided blade.

Chris, A good plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow. LOL

I shaved with my Buck 110 a day or two after I got it. Just the right side, I used a twin-bladed Gillette disposable razor on the left, the Gillette did a better job, but still...

Awesome! If you try again, post a photo!! :)

All yours to mess around with! I quit shaving one long weekend in 1974 —

(Or was it 1973?)

I wish I could give up shaving...... but I fear my gal would not appreciate that at all ;)

2014 flat ground Thug with 5160 steel, just arrived yesterday :)

Baton some wood out in the wilderness and have a shave.... great combination for a blade.... :p

Nothing like shaving with a knife as big as your head...lol

014 flat ground Thug just arrived yesterday :)

Great shots, Chris! If anyone had any doubts about the ability of a Buck to take an edge, I would say you have laid that issue to rest.

Thank you Sir!
Lots of these are brand new knives with factory edges too :)
Some are older ones that I have sharpened, or touched up, finished with my 1000 grit ceramic stone.
