Sheath mounted PSK

I wanted to get a bare-bones PSK mounted on my knife sheath. Here's my effort.

The knife is an Entrek Javalina in a Kydex sheath. The PSK pouch is a generic knife/multitool belt sheath. It holds a Swedish Firesteel, a Lansky Dogbone sharpener, a Country Comm LED micro light, an ACR whistle and a Silva keychain compass, all on a 1/8" braided cord lanyard. An innertube rubber band helps to secure the Velcro flap. The pouch is laced through the rivet eyes in the Kydex sheath and the belt loop on the pouch. I was able to get it nice and tight.

I'm pretty happy wiht the result. It doesn't look too awkward and it doesn't hang out to the point where it will be hanging up on brush or catching my sleeve.

Nice Very basic Not too cluttered, You might think about adding a tinder of some kind to make fire starting easier but otherwise i think you have a great kit.

PS: how is this knife for woodcraft I am not really that farmiliar with them but i like the looks of it.

PPS oh yeah the inner tube can be tinder (My Bad)

A smaller fixed blade such as a buck hartsook or sak classic might be nice to have as well.

Nice rig!!

I would second the tinder idea.
I know that space is a premium, but, perjaps some small bits of toilet paper, or even char cloth, in a small ziplock bag would get you over the hump, should it be damp outside.

All in all , good minimal set-up.

How is it attached? (sideview?)

I third the tinder idea. Some Tinder-Quick tabs thrown in the bottom of the pouch will work and won't take up much space.

Good idea on the tinder.

Thought I took a shot of the back side, but it was late. It is simply laced on using 1/8" black braided cord running through the rivets in the sheath and through the belt loop on the pouch and I fused the knot.

Lone Wolf makes a sheath for their folders that would be really cool for this sort of sheath pouch.

very nice kit dale... small and simple... i really like that knife a lot..... i might have to look into that one.... entrk makes some great hard working knives...

i second the tinder-quick tabs... they work great.... i put some in each of my kits... thay also work well for reducing any rattling in your PSK's....

that lone-wolf poch looks perfect for a small PSK....

Just a thought, instead of a ziplock that bunches up-- how about laying a bit of tinder on a peice of clear packing tape(sticky side up) and then laying another peice of tape over it(sticky down)?? Should be very waterproof, slide easily and lay flat in pouch, easy to trim to minimal size and part of the flame as the tinder catches. "laminated" tinder.
Thoughts?

Bill,

That's a good idea of doing the tinder inside of a tape lamination. Could even do a few individually packaged ones, just cut open the tap and fuzz up the tinder to light it up. I'll have to play with that.

Posts like these are one of the main reason I come to these forums, I think this is an excellant idea, I am going to try this with charcloth.

Oh yeah, that would be real good for charcloth, paper, thin peices of wood, anything fairly flat.

Great idea!

Yeah, I think a 13 function Victorinox SAK Outdoor would look awfully cool in that rig! :)

Duct tape and tinder would go well together. If you really got into this, you might be able to build in a rip cord using dental floss or Spectra line. You could bundle a couple matches in there too. One of those "spy capsules" would be a very tech-y way of doing it. Here's another source with better shipping rates: https://www.keychain-tools.com/survivalkeychain/spycapsules.asp

On a tangent, I carry a couple of those "no blow out" joke birthday candles in my match safe.

Something I should say is that this concept is to get the most essential items strapped to my side and there is a lot more that should be carried in the woods. The good old list of essentials must go with you every time, period. I am a firm believer in redundancy with fire starting and navigation.

Very nice little setup. You might consider a Victorinox Bantam Alox or Cadet II Alox. Both < 5/16 inch thick, and would add you a smaller blade and some can / bottle opener options.

I really like the idea of these kits being built around a primary tool. If things could slow down a little, I want to do one around a Fiskars hatchett- that long hollow handle is calling to me!! LOL!! These small pouch kite are awesome. I get so many great ideas off this forum.

after reading these sheath PSK thraeds... it got me motivated to finish one that i had started awhile back.... here's mine....

i was making it to fit a neck knife... the kit can be attached to just about any of my other neck knives.... this knife pictured is a favorite of mine... it's a bark river mini-candian, with blaze orange g-10 handle scales...

complete with:
- mini-match and striker
- photon
- plastic water-tight vial with a tinder quick, some spiderwire, a hook and 2 split-shots....
- plastic innertube to hold it all
