Sheath mounted PSK

Tried the duct tape and tinder idea and it worked great. Took a pj soaked cotton ball and sealed it up in a pouch of duct tape. Carried it around for a bit and it seemed to hold up just fine. I then took my knife and cut a slit in the top of it, pulled out some of the cotton and lit it. It burned very nicely, slowly burning the duct tape as well. I did find that if I would cut a cross on the top of the duct tape then push up from underneath I would get a very nice mound of tinder sticking out of the top and that burned very well. Definitely going to have try this some more but it shows a lot of promise.

One other thought on tinder is that you can buy cotton piping cord at fabric stores. It's 100% cotton fiber and is used in the decorative trim of cushions and upholstery. Basically it looks just like the tinder quick that's sold. I bought some to try soaking it in various mixtures from pj to pj mixed with zippo fluid to see how it does. Should do real well. I have also tried using a tampon and they burn suprisingly well. Was just experimenting with various flammable objects that might be found in a BOB and considering I have a wife those would be included.

after reading these sheath PSK thraeds... it got me motivated to finish one that i had started awhile back.... here's mine....

i was making it to fit a neck knife... the kit can be attached to just about any of my other neck knives.... this knife pictured is a favorite of mine... it's a bark river mini-candian, with blaze orange g-10 handle scales...

Excellent! I did the same thing with a Becker Necker. That Bark River is a sweet little knife. I wrapped the handle on the Becker with black cord and I need to try it again with reflective stuff-- the orange scales are good.

I used chain rather than paracord and put the chain in silicone fish-tank air tubing-- much more comfortable. The tubing could be used to suck water from a seep, etc. You could just use the tubing for a necklace too.

I get the itch to get a kydex press--- it could get SO out of hand :) "Honey, I kydexed the kids!"

I got my spy capsules from SurvivalKeychain.com today. They are sweet! Heheh-- I could see myself festooned with the things. I wish I ordered a couple more.

Anyway, going on strong recommendation from many here, I used the small spay capsule to add four Tinder Quik tabs to my sheath-mounted PSK. I used a pencil to push the tabs in and packed them tight--- it will take something small to hook them back out of there. I put the other six tabs I had in a large spy capsule (I bought one of each) and that left plenty of room for more. The small one fit in the bottom of my sheath-mounted PSK like a glove and I'm keeping the large one for my "main" hiking PSK.

I also went with a military firestick I picked up-- looks and works like the Swedish Firesteel, except the plastic head is much smaller. The big head on the Swedish Firesteel (just like the Kershaw one) is easy to hold, but it is a big lump in a micro kit like this.

Anyway, it all fits nice. It has to be packed with a little puzzle-play, but I didn't need to cram it in. I got my StayGlow SAK Classic in there too :)

Here's the current contents:

Small spy capsule with four Tinder Quik tabs
Firesteel
Lansky Dogbone sharpener
County Comm LED micro light
SAK StayGlow Classic
ACR whistle
Silva keychain compass
1/8" paracord lanyard
Two inner tuber rubber bands

You guys got some nice small little kits there, for everyday carry in the weeds. Just when you didnt think anyone else was like you, you get suprised.
Id like to expand my little civilian camping edc kit a little. all i do is throw whatever i can into the extra pouch of the blackhawk nylon sheath i use from time to time. like a little mag bar wrapped with some line, with some hooks taped on, a sliced down polished stainless signal mirror, a little brit whistle, maybe a condom, or an issue survival wire saw. it all depends on where im goin. Good thinkin though guys. and the idea you got mtnfolk mike is dam good. pretty innovative.

I've posted these elsewhere, but since I still have pbucket up, what the heck.
