sheffield knife supply

My first knife order was from ann back in 88, she has always been nice to me and very helpful with my questions back then, she knows her stuff, also like to deal with Pop's, those who remember back James poplin made some nice knives, still enjoy when I run across a picture of one of his drop points.

Would anyone happen to know if Sheffield has an actual store that you can walk into and purchase there goods? I Live about an hour from them and would find it very convenient to be able to pick up supplies without waiting or paying for shipping.

I use Jantz alot, and have always been treated very well. And I have ordered some from Sheffield with no problems, not very friendly though. Jantz will give you a total with shipping when ask for. I now buy most of my steel from Pop's Knife Supplies and Nick at Metrics Unlimited, both are great people to deal with.

Josh,

I've been by their location a couple of times and picked some stuff up, as my work takes me nearby at least a few times a year. Just call first to see if they have in stock whatever you've made up on your shopping list, and be sure somone will be there when you want to come by. ;) They don't really have a storefront but have beeen very accomodating when I've dealt with them...ALL of them :D

You need to double check your drive time estimate though, it looks to me like it would be closer to two hours from Melbourne to Orange City...And don't forget the fabulous greater Orlando traffic :barf:

Ironbikemike, appreciate the shout about Sheffield. It's actually right about an hour for me to get to Tandy leather and I just glanced at mapquest of orange city. Looked to be another 10-15 minutes. New to BF, are you able to see my photo album when you visit my profile?

Josh,
The photo album is hooked up and has some nice pictures in it. Also has some blurry pictures in it :;) From my work driving experience in Seminole County, it will take you around 45 minutes to get to where Sheffield is in Orange City from the Tandy location. Looks like you've spent a good deal of time at Tandy...nice looking leather work in the photo album :)

Two other supplier names out of the fog...who remembers them?
Bob Schrimsher's Custom Knife Supply
Holt-Sornberger

I bought 440C from Holt and Sornberger in the late 80's early 90's, and they also did some HT on 01 blades for me. Good guys that were good knifemakers.

If you want quick complete computerized service with immediate price totals including shipping you may wish to go elsewhere. I like a human voice, pleasant or sometimes frustrated, maybe doesn't have running price totals but can give you good advice on the viability of the product you are considering for the application you have in mind and that is among the reasons why I favor Sheffield supply. Another is their very complete selection of O1 and ATS34. the two steels I use most.

Guys agian let me apologize for the way this post sounded, I too appreciate non-computer human based customer service, I was just having a bad day and so was she. My good friend has done business with her for 20 years and this weekend "educated" me on good knife suppliers like Sheffield. So again I meant no disrespect. I will be buying from her again in the future.:o:foot:

I still have two 6' bars of steel left from them in the late 80's. Well, had two bars, until the bastids at USPS managed to recently lose 2' of it in the mail for me. (Note to self: don't EVER ship w/o insurance..it's makes them watch the package better.)

Clean steel. I loved their stuff, when some sources were starting to show a lot of pits and inclusions.

Yes An is Gruff! And Funny as hell once you get to know her. No total? The prices are in the book. Use you own adding machine. You don't have phones going off in your non stop.

Ann is the only supplier out there that can tell you what the heck every thing is for!

She knows her business. And her inventory is "MUCH LARGER" than any one else's in the Knife Supply business. (Been doing it a lot longer to!)

When Ann tells you something works, you can take it to the bank. I can't tell you how many times I have ordered something from some where else, getting some young girl on the phone telling me that they are out of something but have something else just as good. Of course it always sucks when you get it. Now your out of time, and have the wrong thing for the job. Not with Ann.

Ann's Number One in my book.

I remember when the Loveless Shop and I were both almost out of steel. No one in the US had any. But Ann pulled us through! Once again, another company we all know and don't trust claims to have it. Well, some steel was ordered from them as well. As usual, it wasn't the real deal. More time and money wasted. When Ann tell you she has the right steel, she has it! I can figure the cost per foot myself.

Anns' getting on in years. I dread the day she closes the doors.

Bob Schrimsher and I were old friends. He and Ann Sheffield were good friends as well. Bob was the first real Custom Knife Maker Supply. I won't comment on Sornberger.

I'm from New Zealand and I get all my micarta and a few other bits and pieces from Sheffield. No one else I've been able to find has the range of this stuff that they do. I've found them to be really good to deal with, best prices, great service via email and the shippings reasonable as well. Given that the NZ dollar is worth about half the US dollar at the moment I'm very price sensitive.

I've orderd stuff from Jantz (they were good to deal with but a bit on the pricy side) I've ordered stuff from Texas Knifemakers as well (had one snafu that they put right very quickly once they learnt of it) But in the main I find for the small quantities of stuff I get Sheffield is the best.

That is cool. Thank you.

I downloaded their catalog today, haven't had one for years. You guys are right, they have an awful lot of great stuff.

I own a pharmacy in a small town. I buy from local businesses as much as I possibly can, but Wal-Mart has closed a lot of the local businesses. NO sportings goods store any more, no place to get bath towels, fabric, craft supplies, and the list goes on. They are trying to put me out of business with $4.00 prescriptions of drugs from India, Pakistan, Israel, and Kosovo. It is either get it there or drive 30 miles one way.

Maybe a bit late but I would like to comment on this thread. I'm from Holland and always fax my order to Sheffield. After a few weeks my goods arrive just as ordered. If something is not in stock I get an e-mail with some other options when available. I must say I'm very pleased with their service and with their pricing!
