I'm calling shenanigans. Ken and Adam noticed an edit on the Fiddleback Friday thread yesterday. The edit mark was not there, so we accepted it. And now we noticed that somehow some of the posts are not getting marked with an edit stamp. I am going to query the back end of the forum and find out how this is happening and whether or not we can regulate this. If we cannot, then I think this is a big exercise in cheatery and I'm going to change that right away.

Take a look at post #19. I tried to snag a HB, but was too slow, so I edited the posting to avoid confusion... It does not show as edited! Something appears wrong with the system!

I thought I noticed it that yesterday and I think I was affected by it. Left a sour taste in my mouth all day.

I'm not the referee here, but I too saw an "02" appear that wasn't there originally.

I also edited my post number 6 in this thread to add my name and it did not get a time stamp. It appears that edits in the same minute as the original post may not generate the time stamp.

Frankly I saw that "02" too. When I saw it I left the whole Fiddleback Friday concept in my rearview. Good to know that's not normal. Maybe I'll give it another go next week.

Just looked at my edited post as well. There is no "edited" time stamp on it when I saw that my pick was already taken and I posted to withdraw. There is a lag time where you can edit the post once before it shows as being edited. This is normal for most forums: I believe you can edit a couple times before it shows that the post was edited.

test edit x10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19

Edited this post 20 times over the last minute and it only showed the edited time stamp when I filled in the "reason for editing"

I believe we have about 5 minutes to edit one of our own posts before it shows an edit stamp.
 
Personally, I think there should be the full description copied in the post. Too many times someone can look at the FOTKI pics, type up a generic/ambiguous description (e.g. "I'll take the bushfinger") and then copy the text over into the reply, post it, then add a simple word into make sure its specific enough... all this ensuring that their post was the earliest.

I guess the real wrench in all this is the amount of time someone has to edit a thread. Seeing how that half the knives are claimed in 2-3 minutes, this is a real issue.

Whenever I have posted an "I'll take it", I always scroll up right away to see if someone beat me. Then you know that person truly beat you to it since they would not have had the luxury of seeing your post prior to theirs.
 
I guess of you need the knife bad enough to cheat me you need it much more than I do and you can have it. That is pretty petty and comes directly against the reasons I hang out here!
 
I’m new around here so my opinion may be taken with a grain of salt. Regarding the post, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me as it had the potential to affect my shark, but then it appeared to be clear and I thought it was just me not reading right. Selfishly, I didn’t think anything else of it.

I love FBF’s. I think it is one of the neatest things around. Some weeks you win, some weeks you lose. I did have a slight “why do I post the whole description” moment, when I saw that post, but then reminded myself that I believe it is the fair and clear way to shark and Andy and crew ask us to do it that way. Others may disagree and that is totally ok. I don’t put “I’ll take it”, and perhaps I am wrong for not doing so, but to me that seems kind of a given.

I think these moments are what exacerbate’s a bad beat. I felt bad reading Fishnfool’s post yesterday. I consider myself pretty tech savvy, and feel that if I hit refresh at the right time, I have as good a chance as anyone to score the knife I would like and do it posting the entire description. Others may not be that quick on a computer, so keeping the playing field as level as possible seems only fair, which is what I see Andy and crew doing all the time, including right now.

I sometimes feel bad being a new shark as there are definitely some guys that have been around here for quite a long time supporting Andy. I am just adding to their odds of not scoring what they want on any given Friday. At the same time, we should all be so excited for Fiddleback. Can you imagine creating a product that gets posted online and sells out within minutes? I can only dream of it and while I wouldn’t like it because it would be so hard to get a knife, if there were 1000 sharks online and I only scored 1 knife every couple months, I would be happy for Andy. Again, not the ideal situation for your personal collection, but the broader point is his continued growth and success, or we get nothing.

In any case, I am glad Andy and crew are doing whatever needs to be done to fix it as I would be bummed to see FBF’s go and not be able to soak up the wisdom and posts of guys/gals who have been around for such a long time, with so much knowledge and history to share, too frustrated to keep coming back. A bit long winded, but wanted to share.
 
Well I certainly didn't cheat, I just didn't see that there were 2 hiking buddies in the thread because I was giving my child a bottle. I edited it seconds later, I believe of you edit within the same minute it doesn't post it. Keep the knife, give it hasco, refund my money, it's all good. My intent was not to be dishonest, frankly i could use the extra time on Fridays. It's very hard to cut and paste from a phone.
 
Just for the record I wasn't directing what I said to you or anyone really! I have no idea who cheats or if anyone ever does I was seriously saying if someone needs it that bad they need it more than I do!
 
The fact that anyone is implying that I am a cheat is an insult. Andy said it in his post also. I was not cheating, it was a mistake. I've spent my hard earned money on FBF for the the short 2 months I've been around. To be called a cheat is a slap in the face. If you don't like the way people play your game, change the rules. I don't want the knife, refund my money.
 
That explains the posts that just say "removed" or "too slow" without the edit stamp. I've been noticing it for only a few weeks (March was the revival of Fiddleback Friday for me after being absent for a few years) and just accredited it to people more computer savy than I. Never thought more of it. But if people are using it for a placeholder to add the proper text a few seconds later... that's pretty low.

I agree with others that the full description from the sales thread should be a requirement, not just a request.
