Shield for the Disk Grinder

My main curiosity is how to handle the plunge... Do you just do that on the 2x72?

I have tried using my 9" disc over and over and I always go back to the 2x72. When I hear knowledgeable people praising this method I listen, but it just hasn't been working for me so far.

Hey Ian,
Tim Hancock demonstrated his method for addressing the plunge on the disc grinder at Travis W's hammer inn.
Once your blade is flat, use a piece of ceramic to kill the edge of the paper on the disc.
Attach a file guide, Tim calls it a grinding guide, and put the blade flat against the disc and push the plunge right ti the edge of the disk.
This works best if the disk is beveled on the back, like Nathan's for example.
Hope this helps.

I'll try to keep this as simple as possible, if you are having plunge trouble leave the paper
a hair big- a very small amount and roll it over the edge of the disc with a wallpaper or
ink roller. Ease into the plunge and it gets cleaned up. If I've got one really screwed up I
have a VRD with printers mat on it (.005) compression, this will clean up most any plunge.
Yeah I know I'm a tool whore.

I just ordered the Neilsen magnetic hub and four disks last week. Three of the disks will be beveled at 1 degree. The fourth disk will be a flat one with a rear bevel for getting into tight spots. I'll post some photos once I receive it and get it set up.

I just bought all 3 flat thin discs
