I need some advice. This is a 3 1/2" serpentine with single muskrat blade. The stag is very nice but there is a smooth spot right where a shield could go. Any thoughts? ?? What say ye.....Yea or nay?

I'd leave it off as the stag runs so nicely into the bolsters without any ground off effect. No need to mask your workmanship with a shield:thumbup:

Beautiful knife and while I don't think you could go wrong either way, I like it with the shield. Lovely stag, but to my eye, the shield enhances it. Wouldn't be surprised if I'm in the minority though. Best of luck, and again - just a wonderful looking knife!

I'd leave it off. It's a nice shield but looks too big for that knife.

Just to confuse things: I like the shield, but it looks just a little big for the width of the handle. I think a slightly smaller shield would look perfect, but that's just my aesthetic opinion. :)

Sweet knife, either way, though.

Yes, maybe a Bar or slim type of shield would work better? Still think it doesn't need one though.

+1

I like the shield. But I almost always prefer a shield as opposed to no shield. And I usually prefer a larger one to a smaller one.

I showed it to my wife who is nowhere near a knife person. She said it looks better without the shield and that the shield looks too large anyway.

Hmmmm, I don't really know if I've helped or not.:o

I agree 100%. Beautiful stag, beautiful knife Brent!

I really think it looks better with the shield. You're right, that spot on the stag does go a little smooth...which isn't bad in any way, but you're not covering up awesome figure with the shield and I really think the shield adds a nice finishing touch.

I agree that a bar would look good as well.

I like it with a shield, but agree that a smaller one might be a better fit. Either way, it's a very good looking knife

I agree, my thoughts exactly. A little big, although it looks better with a shield.
