shield/no shield

Brent, Your knives are outstanding and with or without looks good. I myself prefer a shield.

I normally would want the shield but the one you have is a little too large for that knife so I vote no shield.:cupcake:

I like shields, but that beautiful stag with the lines of that pattern looks good without, IMO.

Brent - That is some beautiful Stag. It seems to be me that the shield is a little large for this width of handle.
IMO I think that it would be prone to cracks in a couple of areas. If this shield was say 25% smaller I would say yes.

Yes. This fantastic knife need a shield but nit this one. Maybe bar shield or bar with slight curve parallel to the knife construction.
Anyway great looking

Shields on stag should be a criminal offense. But I don't like shields anyways.

Why dont you just come right out and say what you really think?:p
It's a Nay from me in this case.Great looking knife .

I have some sympathy with this view! :D Often, I think shields can detract from the natural beauty of stag, and somewhat over-egg the pudding so to speak.

Beautiful knife and while I don't think you could go wrong either way, I like it with the shield. Lovely stag, but to my eye, the shield enhances it.

Just to confuse things: I like the shield, but it looks just a little big for the width of the handle. I think a slightly smaller shield would look perfect, but that's just my aesthetic opinion. :)

However, I find myself agreeing with Stephen and r8shell in this case. Great work either way

Great looking Stag!
I think a smaller shield, maybe a bar, slim oval or Empire, would be perfect to set it off.

Beautify looking knife, and as I am fairly new to the various ascetics of traditional knives I think the stage transition to the bolster has a good organic look to it and the shield just seems to take a little of that away.

I'd leave it off as the stag runs so nicely into the bolsters without any ground off effect. No need to mask your workmanship with a shield:thumbup:

+1 on the bar shield or oval. I think a shield puts a bit of flair on a knife.

Like the shield but agree that one is just a tad oversized for that width of scale,

edited to add, at first I thought you also had a bail there too ;) that would be cool but probably not something you could incorporate :(

A definite NO. The stag on that knife is too pretty to put a shield on it. That's my opinion, yours may vary.
