Shields and stag.

However, on the other end of the spectrum, I could definately see this knife without a shield, based upon the flow of the stag. Either a different shield or no shield might look a bit better as this one distracts from the lines of the handle

I've seen nice examples each way here. Each one is an individual case. I certainly wouldn't turn down RYU's knife, but nor would I pass on Ken's SBJ!
I used to have a girl friend with a big mouth and a tiny nose - but she was beautiful!!!

Is it just me, or does anyone else think really nice stag should be left alone to be just what it is; a great looking handle left unadorned?

I especially feel this way with factory names on the shield. I mean, the name is already stamped on the blade tang, how much more do you need?

I tend to agree. However, I do like the laser-etched "shield" Case is putting on their new line of CV Sambar stag knives ...

Call me a purist, but,

I guess I'll just stick to naked stag!:)

Keep it clean, buddy. This is a family forum! :p

See, now that does not mess up any of the view, is small and tasteful. Nice and clean between the bolsters. But since they already have the name struck on the tang, do the manufactorers really need to overdo it and put the name on again?

There's been so many nice beautiful knives posted on this thread, but may of them would be more interesting to me if they had no shield. I guess it's just my own taste.

Carl.

In the deep forest of India you never see a Sambar deer with shields on his antlers. Never. :D
Like others have said, shields can work on some stag handled knives. But looking at the pictures in this thread, the naked stag looks better to me.

I'm still thinkin about Charlie's old girl friend :)

I like both shield and no shield. If this is turning into a no shield stag thread then here are some Amherst carvers:

That Tomes gives a Masterclass in elegance and strength:thumbup: One of your best knives, there are many....:D

I still like the shield on stag as well, works best with a broad shield in my view or, paradoxically, a Bar

I'll keep that in mind Elliott. I don't want to give him a case of the Blues.

Well, I like Bars:D And Kind of Blue is a much liked Miles album!

Of course, it would be better if both those knives were with me:D but it's good to know they're out there in the world in good hands:thumbup:

Kind Of Blue is about as good as it gets! (There are others as good, but hard to think of better, imho.)

...and now back to our regular programming...

Did you know that Duane Allman listened to nothing (when he listened to music other than his own) but "Kind of Blue" for over 1 YEAR?

One with, two without..
