Shilin Cutters, ethnic Chinese folders, pics

And let me show you the hidden back spring. It works so well as to make the larger ones, larger than the 2.5" blade one, very stern to open and close. There is a stop @ the halfway point that is quite firm. You absolutely won't open or close one of these with any kind of a flip or snap. You gotta use both hands firmly. And this from someone known for his death-grip large paws.

Good to know the blade doesn't just slide in and out all pell-mell on these. Perhaps someday I'll get to struggle with my own shih-ling-dao!

C.S. were you not able to obtain a Kuo made knife from the other forum group buy? http://www.ramanon.com/forum/showthread.php?77672-Shih-Ling-Dao-???-Taiwanese-folder/page2&

Thank you kindly for the key word (helpful to use searching via the Google): Shih-Ling Dao 士林刀

The two folders by Kuo He Ji came in a couple days ago, and I have to say that out of the box, they're probably the sharpest knives I've ever bought. I wonder if the blades are carbon steel or stainless... I guess if I decide to put 'em to use on some kind of mildly acidic foodstuffs I'll find out!

what happened here with all the posts?

Not a clue! However, let's bring some pics back into the thread. I recently acquired two handmade shih-ling dao via a fellow forumite, and these suckers are SHARP!:

They are pretty stylin' little folders alright. Good luck if you give in to the urge!

I'm still sportin' this bald spot on my arm a week later!

Nice! Any idea what the blade steel is on those, Mr. Graves?

Andy

Thanks Andy! Not a clue... at least nothing specific that I'd be able to name. All I can say is "stainless". Originally I had hoped for carbon steel, fan of patina that I am... but given the difficulty in getting these over here, and my surprise at the edge they take, can't say I'm unhappy!

Perhaps KuKulzA28 will be able to tell the specifics?
