.......He's hard to get a hold of sometimes though. He's not on there every day.

Well, I sent an e-mail last night and will try a PM if I have not heard in a week. This one has gotten me worked up now after seeing one with a handle like that (even though I am a basic, "Micarta kinda guy") and the plunge line all the way to the handle. I have seen a lot of his knives (and heard a lot of good things about them) that had a generous ricasso, a substantial handle and not a lot of cutting edge left over when you add it all up. Knowing he can (is willing to) get the edge up close like that has me thinking.

HD, I think your knives are the ones that most often get me thinking like thhat. The tweaks and mods on the handles and observations regarding edges always make sense and always seem to be what's missing in the stuff that I get and am not thrilled about when I try to use them.

I know exactly what you mean about not being thrilled trying to use stuff.

They don't make scandi edges which is a bummer but in a lot of ways if you order your knife when they are doing a run Bark River actually comes thru on a lot of the things we are talking about better than a LOT of custom knives.

They have the handle contouring down. The edge is way better than about 75% of the custom knives I've bought. The wood is mostly good and the contouring and ricasso thing is perfect on their working knives.

I have a few that I sorted from two dozen that I tried out and, yes, the edges have me spoiled. I have a terrible time getting most others' secondary bevels to work for me. The knife in my avatar is influenced a lttle by their Mini Northstar in size and a good bit more from what I have seen in knives you have posted pics of. I have one coming in 1/8" and am going to try my hand at doing a full height convex on it. I don't think I would try to free-hand a Scandi.

I have to admit though that the bruiser in this thread is bigger than I am typically attracted to but it's a sweet heart.

Jesus! Thats phenomenal HD. Very pretty wood. And your contouring is perfect as usual! Looks like a beater in the making!!!!!!
