shipping on knife...not fair at all

You should move to Canada. Here, we regularly pay $20-40 for shipping from America. This is slow service that will take 2-4 weeks to arrive due to customs. Even domestic shipping within Canada usually runs high, around $10-15 unless its Amazon.

True but why do that when you can just get a bunch of small flat rate boxes and print out the label online and just pop it in the mail box. No gas or anyones time is wasted. Plus it's cheaper printing the label out.

That won't help in a lot of cases. From first hand experience, especially out here in the west, mail boxes are often not located at a person's home. For example, mine is 5 miles from my door. And even then, there is no place to put a package when ready to mail it. Envelope slots only. So, a trip to the P.O. (15 miles from my door) is in order.

Unfortunately, not everyone has a nearby mailbox - especially those of us who live in the middle of nowhere. ;)

That is not an absurd amount to properly pack and ship a knife. The cost of the knife is not really a big factor. Shipping a $10 knife properly is the same amount as a $100 knife. If some one shipped it in an envelope for $3 and it got destroyed, then you would probably complain about how it was shipped. (We have seen that here before quite often) No one is making a fortune off of $8 or $9 on shipping.
As a consumer you have options and they always involve trade offs.

Shipping and Handling.

Handling. Not just shipping.

The cost of handling will depend on how much care somebody takes and how much they value their time.

I purchased a 940-1 on Amazon last Saturday with the Free shipping. It's now a week later and the knife is still sitting at the Post Office in California... I'll never do "free" shipping again. Priority or I'll get it somewhere else. First class mail sits until the carrier is full and then it goes... over a week wait for a $250 purchase is ridiculous. I never send anything That is not Priority

Personally I am getting pissed off with Amazons free shipping if its over a certain cost. I ordered some movies on tuesday, order is still being processed. But if I had selected to Amazon Prime I would have had it in 2 days. Plus the really annoying issue is, the Amazon warehouse is only an hour away tops. Seems they wanna force you into getting a Prime account or they just take your time even preparing your order. And this is the 2nd time ive ordered in the past few months and the order sat for a few days.
