Shipping to Canada from USA question?

Sorry to hear your having such a hard time shipping your knife to Canada. As a Canadian, I hope this experience doesn't become a negative one in the end. Just a tip for you,did you know that if you still wanted to use your own box, First Class Mail might be an option, as I understand as of this year, you can track and insure them.

Asked at the PO if could ship first class said yes but said they couldn't put insurance on it. Cheap only $8.00 but i can't ship a $120 knife with no insurance. I hope in time will have this international shipping down to a science but this first experiance has not been good. Have actually shipped to Russia and Brazil but i didn't care if didn't have insurance cause was cheaper items and ones i got for free so no loss to me and the shipping was set up through ebay so was easy to do. Don't like going in to the local PO anymore cause everytime i do have problems with something. They charged me $50 extra for items that were clearly media mail after they opened the package and said they weren't and many other situations also. I'm getting this knife to Canada one way or the other even if i have to shoot it over the border with a huge cannon or take a road trip on bus and deliver it personally. More than likely if worse comes to worse will just ship with no insurance if need be.

Wow,that an eye opener.First Class to Canada but no insurance.I know for a fact that this is possible as I had a small packet with some small parts with a value of $90 ship FC with tracking and insurance.

Those postal clerks should go through there postal procedures manual again and take there job more seriously as we all know mail volumes are not as high as they were once and the USPS is in the red and continue to bleed. As Esav said maybe you should talk with the postmaster.

As in the US,It's the same here in Canada, letter volume suffering dramatic declines and parcel volumes increase slightly but overall still in the red.In Vancouver,BC ,I've noticed ever since the last postal strike 3 years ago there is never a lineup at the main post office as in the years before. There is rarely any people purchasing stamps or mailing packages. As it is evident that businesses have switched to the courier companies and they are now, even cheaper than the post office here in Canada. The exception is if you're shipping to small towns.

The fact that you shipped first class with insurance though good info to know makes me very depressed. Tried buying it online and unable to buy with insurance and they told me same thing at PO, no insurance with first class. IDK. They broke me i don't care anymore. I'm shipping Priority with insurance(if it's even possible with a different PO clerk tomarrow telling something else than the one today) otherwise sending first class with no insurance.

Honestly Priority or first class will cost you pretty must the same after insurance and tracking. You can't track First Class so you need to buy tracking on top but you can use the "customs form number" in Priority mailing to track the package all the way to the buyer in Canada. I just tend to pay $20.55 for priority small box and that's it. USPS doesn't reimburse knives being stopped at customs as they are being "just detained" and I am not sure how their reimbursement goes by if the package gets lost in Canada Post. I know they will do an investigation as both post systems work hand to hand. First Class and Priority are both upgraded to Expedited Postal in Canada so the only benefit in terms in speed is on the US side. If the original box doesn't fit in priority small box I just send it First Class, but always tend to use Priority to beging with. I DO NOT recommend Express International to Canada.

Again if you have any more detailed questions or something happens just PM or email any of us up here ;)
